"I don't want to start any blasphemous rumours, but I think that God has a sick sense of humour, and when I die I expect to find him laughing."

i used to cry and drive around to that song for literally hours when i was a teenager, just wishing i had the guts to drive my car straight into something. that was when i felt that god must be right, and i must be wrong or i'd be happy in 'his service'. i'm glad i didn't do it, but the sentiment in the song still speaks to me.

that one and dear god by XTC still sum up the way i feel about "god."

if he/she/it is out there, it has to be a really vindictive, angry, sick being because otherwise it would DO SOMETHING about what is going on down here. if we are his creation...well geez, most people couldn't stand to see a dog or cat go through anything close to what is happening here on earth.

bride burnings. female mutilation. slavery. child molestation. stoning of women in the middle east for any trumped up charge the men want to create. babies murdered by sick women who happened to have given birth to them (and usually they kill them because 'god told them to') human rights injustices the whole world over.

yeah, i really think martin gore and co. had it right. if there is a god, it must have a sick sense of humor indeed.

duncan shiek did a great cover of that song, btw. totally different feel, same haunting message.

personally, i'm a lot better off believing that no one is in control of this mess that is humankind, otherwise i'd be a really angry, bitter person...

God's existence is not dependent on if anyone believes God exists or not. He exist wether or not anyone wants to except it. Unfortunately, because of cultic deceptions which the devil uses as a tool, people leaving cults may fall into general fallacies claiming all beliefs in a god is foolishness. This is not the case. Just because a women breaks a man's heart in a relationship, that man should not belive all women are bad, and the same goes with the reverse.

You need more faith to believe God does not exist than to believe that God does exist.

    Nat,

If you give me a good reason to prove your point ok. But making a remark like that and thats it doesn't say much about you and your intellect. If you would like to have an honestly seeking debate, than ok, but if you want to insult unwarranted, maybe you should go to aol chatrooms.

Dearest Nat, you said that "Can?t people just accept the fact that they die eventually and instead of wasting away their precious life on worrying about what happens?"

Well, that is just the point, is it not? For my part, I love LIFE so much that the mere thought of non-existence makes me spin ................ I have lived in fear of death since the age of 6, when I spent one whole night screaming in terror because my mother responded to my question if everybody had to die, with "yes, I think so". When I was 8 or so, I wanted to have my new electric train with me in my coffin, all arranged and moving in a circle around me - so that I could have something to watch while I was lying there all those years.

My daughter's recent question to me, "When people are dead, can they think?" made me weep and bleed and scream inside.

I found a sort of relief in a thought recently, that eternity is something way different from "a very, very long time" not just quantitatively, but also qualitatively. That anything that can possibly happen, will happen. A sentence was, that "When you have been dead and buried in your grave for a billion years, then one fraction of a second of eternity will have passed." THAT is a sentence that can make your mind go for a walk.

I refused to believe in god for years because he seemed like such an a**hole. But, I got to thinking that hating some brutal uncaring sh*t of a god I was still just really believing in the god I'd been taught, only in a negative way. Now I think, well, we're totally free to believe in the god of our choice, it's really not a matter of having to choose between the JW big-fat-mean-wanker god, or no god. One thing I really blame the JW religion for is that it so often leaves people cringing like whipped dogs when it comes to spirituality. That spiritual abuse cuts people off from something that might actually be a source of strength and comfort for them. I think if we hate god because JWs were such berks, then in a twisted way, they WON. They say, "ours is the one true god", but why believe it? Why not make a god that suits you? They do.

Another vote for having no fear of the future, and enjoying each day.

Belief doesn't preclude enjoyment - far from it.
(Watch me go in Dallas ).

There's much evil in the world, but there's also much good.
To focus on one, to the exclusion of the other, is just selecting the evidence to support a personal belief / disbelief, IMHO.

2Pe 3:16 as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.
Again I want to say that just because the JW have given people a distorted view about God doesn't mean that they are right. They have twisted and distorted scripture and have given loads of nasty coverups everytime they screw or screwed up. The true God of the Bible and the world is not the same the JW teach. Remember, everytime a JW comes up with a doctinal law, he doesn't get it from the bible. There are governing body members who sit at a table and vote on issues to tell wether it is a sin or not. (read Crisis of onscience by Raymond Franz...former governing member and nephew of the late Fred Franz.) They use verses out of context to suit their choice on issues. So what I'm saying is don't blame good for a group spreading false rumors about Him. If someone spread false rumors about yourself, you would not want everyone to belive them based on what they are saying but you would want them to search out the truth to see if what they are claiming is eaither true or false. The same if some distorted the image of your mother and made her look different than what she really is like wether it be physical spiritual. you would want to prove that their rumors are wrong, and you would not want other people to believe what they say. They same is with God. Don't have a negative belief torwards Him just because sinful groups have told lies about Him and claim that it was coming directly from Him. Remember what John said: 1Jo 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
