Apostafests: Sorting out The Men from The Boys.

I've been to a fair few fests now.

    Loads of 'em in fact.

    Great fun they were too.

However, it seems to me that attending an apostafest can be a make-or-break experience for many wavering dubs.

I see some people who positively seem to thrive on the experience whilst attending a fest, yet, once it's finished, never seem to post again.

Others seem to become more convinced than ever that they've made the right choice, and wild horses won't stop them from attending the next one. Their posts become more confident, their life expectations increase and they refuse to put up with any witness crap from their dub relatives.

So what happens to those who simply disappear forever after the've attended their first fest?

Do they get an attack of the Demon Bug and and pray for forgiveness for their wickedness before scuttling back to the KH?

Or do they think to themselves: Bugger this, I'm having nothing anymore to do with either JW's or Ex-Jw's, I hate 'em all?

Or do they just think my beefburgers tasted crappy?

    Enquiring minds want to know!

    Oh..thanks, Xena!

But but but...Is the reality of leaving the JW's really brought home to some when they attend their first 'fest?

It's quite a step for anyone to take, especially if all they have done up till then is to post incognito on a website.

You know..does the old dub demon fear kick in suddenly?

Yeah I think so. I remember when Nina and I attended our first here in Dallas, we were expecting to be treated like the Witnesses had treated us for years, i.e. looked down on and/or ignored. So it was a shock when this tall, lanky dude with dreadlocks and very glazed eyes, saw us and immediately gave us both a huge hug. Valis introduced us around and made sure we felt welcome. I remember talking with Six of Nine and finding out we knew a lot of the same people.

I found out I wasn't the only one who felt the way I did. It was such a reality check (empowering as my therapist would have said). So after that, I couldn't hang out with evil, wicked apostates enough, even went as far as driving 1,400 miles to Florida to meet a couple of Brits and engage in trick or treating for the first time in 30 years.

    Way cool.

I remember I corresponded with my first ex-JWs when I began to leave the Org. It was very scary. Not demonic like the "Exorcist" was , but it did feel like I was dabbling with very dangerous things. And intellectually I knew it wasn't the case, it was just an emotional fear instilled by years of anti-apostate propoganda from the Org. I used a pseudenym and tried to have mail sent to a box, and was very careful that no one found out. Fear can do wacky things, especially since you know with your mind that there are not "evil" people.

Ha ha! Her Ladyship was indeed astonished to find HERSELF trick or treating in the USA, of all places, too.

Who in the hell woulda thought Englishman woulda been giving the "pre-apostofest " talk this year?

Hey mike....I hope your not right about this. Some who go to fest never return? I would think it would only be those types who are still unsure about losing "their faith". Those who still have "micro dub infection" could use an occasion like this as an excuse to go back to robotland so they can snuggle back into their comfort zone and purr again.
