17.90 is a LOT of money for a grocery store employee

How much experience does it take to go *beep* *beep* *beep* "Price check on 5lb bag of Friskies..." ????
I guess we need to start paying people $17.90 to pump our gas because its so darn complicated! Wait! They have do it yourself stations now! What will they think of next!
I have a solution! We will set up grocery stores just like gas stations. Those who want a checker to help them out can pay more for their food while the rest of us will just use self serve.
Corvin cutie,
First of all, stop talking to me like you are a condescending little queen.
I used to work at Albertsons Did you include Sunday, Overtime, Night shift, or Holliday pay in your $17.90?? Those can easily push it above $30 a hour And $17.90 is still too much money to be going *beep* *beep* *beep*
Very few get that Sunday pay you speak of because the grocery chains are cleverly scheduling around that day. $17.90 is max pay for night crew work. You may have worked for albertson's but you still don't know what you are talking about.
So what is your wife going to do when Albertons, Vons, and Ralphs go bankrupt? They cannot compete with Costco and Sams club who's labor costs are 70% of Union Stores. Those savings translate into lower Food costs.
Those companies are not going bankrupt and they will not go bankrupt anytime soon. That is a load of crap and an excuse. The grocery chains were doing a fine job of cutting labor costs before the negotiation of the new contract.
Unions had their purpose. Now they artificially inflate labor costs when businesses are looking to other countries to cut those costs.
How exactly, are they doing that?
Im in a Union now. What a joke. Your job security is not based on your performance but your senority! What crap!
OH really? what sort of union? why are you still in? Why are you a hypocrite?
The only type of Union Job that I support is trade unions such as plumbers, electricians, etc..etc.. because they go to school for 5 years to make their levels of pay. Its the same a getting a college degree. 5 years of school is a VAST difference from *beep* *beep* *beep* *beep*
I recall watching Mary go through lots and lots of training and certification to do what she does at night. What the hell are you talking about? Are you also saying that in 25 years, and after 25 years, she has NOT earned her 6.00 in raises?
hey even have self checkouts now! Who would think that people could actually scan their own food! I mean its soooo complicated *beep* *beep* *beep*
Yeah, LOL, ever notice how little those self-checkouts are used? Look at the difference in the lines at the check out.
Corvin, would you like to talk about Beethleham Steel and how the Union worked wonders there??
I look forward to your dissertation.
Corvin
Trickle-down" or Reagan-omics - by whatever name, ONLY WORKS FOR THOSE NEAR THE TOP OF THE TRICKLE.
Michael,
You might try explaining that to the economy, which is growing stronger than it has in 20 years....or to the 120,000 people who became employed this past month.
Who the hell are you to say how much a grocery store clerk should make and what their job is worth?
Corvin,
I'm a former grocery store clerk.
I'm a former grocery store clerk.
Funny how you and the other former Albertson's employee don't know what you are talking about when it comes to the industry, isn't it?
Im in a Union now. What a joke. Your job security is not based on your performance but your senority! What crap!
GCIU, it didn't matter that I knew the apprentice job better than 30 people above me, seniority dictated that the next guy in line get the job, even though he didn't know the job, didn't really care if he learned it, and thought it was cool to shut the press down because he couldn't make the paper changes.
Corvin,
I'm not a former "Albertson" employee, it was Krogers....a union shop...a pointless union.
Funny how you and the other former Albertson's employee don't know what you are talking about when it comes to the industry, isn't it?I know that most grocery store clerks are over paid at 17.90 an hour...that's how well I know the industry...put more power to Mary, maybe she's worth that much, and perhaps more. All I know is that the unions I've belonged to were WORTHLESS and didn't represent me or my interests.
Ok, ok, fine, you are all entitled to your opinions based on your own experience, but geez, try not to misrepresent the facts.
Kind Regards,
Corvin
I've misrepresented facts?
