    SS,

Furhtermore, why would life all need to be exclusively carbon based. Why could it not be based on other elements as well, such as helium, or silicone?

I guess the reason it is "assumed" by "some" that all life is carbon based is because of the elemental structure of carbon that allow it to unite with other elements especially the two elements that make up water namely hydrogen and oxygen.

This 'assumption" that all life needs to be carbon based is if you ask me, is from those that have no "imagination" and like everything to be black and white.

I would like to speculate that our whole universe is a life form, and that every molecule, atom, elctron, quark and subatomic particle or wave is a life form,, but not as conscious as a worm or human.

Just because a religion involves faith, does not necessarily mean that it is a belief without facts. For example the Christian faith teaches that Jesus Christ died by crucifixion under pilate. There is ample historical evidence for this claim, so the facts and religion go together. True religion should be a true faith, that is a faith that is historically factual.

Actually, the Christian Religion uses the historical fact that a person named Jesus died by crucifixion under Pilate. It uses Faith to say he was raised 3 days later, preformed miracles, was the son of God, etc.

The satelite doesn't shine light, it points its telescope in that direction and intercepts light coming from there. That light has been travelling for 420 light yrs. That means that what the telescope sees happened 420 yrs ago.

It uses the testimony of ancient witnesses that Jesus was raised three days later, and fullfilled prophecy to establish his claims to be the Son of God. These things are believed with faith by Christians today, however the faith rests on the testimony of witnesses to his resurrection.

The light is very faint. So, like w a camera, the exposure time is longer. It could be several days, focused on one spot in the universe, collecting light from there.

    Hoob,

It uses the testimony of ancient witnesses that Jesus was raised three days later,

That is a might big assumption isn;t it?? All we have is writers that "claim" to be witnesses. A far cry from actual proven witnesses.

and fullfilled prophecy to establish his claims to be the Son of God.

    What fullfilled prophecies????

These things are believed with faith by Christians today, however the faith rests on the testimony of witnesses to his resurrection.

Yes, you are right here,, they are believed,,but the testimony of these ancient witnesses is not a very reliable one,, more like a suspension of critical thinking to beleive and have faith. Isn't that credulity??

frankiespeakin, I do hope to deal with your above points, but first how do you know that "the testimony of these ancient witnesses is not a very reliable one," ?

Thats right.....god saw that the best, most realiable, convincing evidence man could have for believing the bible story.....was to have witnesses 2 thousand years ago write about it and for us to believe them 2 thousand years later without doubting any of it. God got tired of showing his power and just decided we could read proof of his existence and his son's in a realible paperback.........that how he does things.

Satanus --- Now that makes some sense .It doesn't sound like a very reliable process .

Gumby --- How do you know there isn't more to it than that ? Just because God doesn't cater to the way you like things doesn't prove he doesn't exist . There are plenty of religious people that feel other wise . I'm not saying I believe everything these people have to say but am inclined to have an open mind about it . I would bet the farm on there being a God . I think there are very strange things that do happen in the universe that defy explanation so why rule out the possibility?
