    Hip-hip, cheerio, there, mate-

It's all in good fun. Bad food (bangers and mash, blood pudding, etc (alright, Yorkshire pudding and Fish & Chips are the exception)), bad cars ( OK, one exception- Jaguars became immensely better when Ford took over and introduced TQC concepts, and replaced that darn Loral-made electrical system), and bad teeth (yes, it's a stereotype, and a funny one, too- look at Austin Powers (notice Dr-Evil's contrasting lovely smile ;-)) and that awful Cockney mumble!

Sure, you've got all that history, what with the Thames, St Peters, Tower Bridge, etc, but you've also got the Royal Family- Oh, very nice. King and Queen, eh! I expect they've got a palace and fine clothes and courtiers and plenty of food. And how d'you get that, Queen?
By exploiting the workers! By hanging on to outdated imperialist dogma which perpetuates the social and economic differences in your society! If there's EVER going to be any progress ... I mean, if I went around saying I was an Emperor because some moistened bint had lobbed a scimitar at me, people would put me away!

And bad comedy (Monty Python excepted).................

    Cheers,

Welllll if this be the ruddy best they can do, it certainly don't yank my chain, maybe Englishman you might have asked the Australians instead!! At least they'd make sense after a few pints. Blinkin' Americans are soooooo dumb offen, they drive me up the wall. Ruddy streuth.

Ok , as a Brit I have laughed , frowned and gagged at what you all have to say... Truth is that I agree to nearly all of it. you are right about The Royal family, British politics, (Do I think of glass houses and stones )

No body mentioned the horrible unpredictable weather and a complaining attitude from so many people, but I guess it is home...

Abaddon, you make me laugh. Okay, it's the middle classes that have a love-hate relationship with their class system. For below middle it's hate-hate, for above middle it's love-adore. But the poor old middles, that was the crowd I inflicted myself upon, so that's what I mostly saw. I agree that they didn't think about Americans that much, but when they did, they seemed to think what I said above.

and even the poor ones don't have taste... maybe it's something in the water?

Americans as a general rule love the British to distraction (I can't tell you how often I had to pry some accent-crazed American waitress off my ex-husband) so our taste can't be all bad. Innit?

Oh, it's easier than that. All you have to understand is that if an Englishman sees you in a pub, says 'What are you doing here you smelly bastard? I'll have a beer please', it normally means he is delighted to see you.

Exactly. But if they DON'T say that, it probably means they really don't like you much. And that's confusing.

Also, Abaddon, I would have to be a complete dolt if I didn't know by now what fanny means, because I have been told gleefully about 17 times since I joined this board. But you know it doesn't mean that to an American, right?

Chevys, to be fair, I've found that most of the US doesn't have good Mexican food either.

Eh I tend not to eat Mexican food while I'm away, unless of course I'm going somewhere like Mexico *LOL* or I cook it myself. But really no, the thought of eating Mexican food in say New York City is not quite right. Most places just don't have the level of spice ya get down here.. Sincerely, District Overbeer
