    Xena ~ great photos!

You might want to take a look around the yard - hawks will hang around after catching their prey, looking for more.

We had been out to Applebee's and had eaten chicken fajitas - we returned home and when our pet chicken didn't come running across the yard to greet us we were worried.

Shortly thereafter, we spot a hawk sitting on the fence - he'd fly away and keep returning. Eventually I went to look over in that area, and I found my pet chicken's HEAD laying in the brush! Just the head - I freaked out and knew what Chirpy's demise had been.

I didn't eat chicken for a very long time after that.

    Cool picture!

I'm a little confused, though. Did your tooting out your back door attract the bird? My wife doesn't let me toot inside the house, but my tooting out the back door has never attracted anything but boohs from my family.

    Update:

This bench is in my next door neighbor's yard. While this one was out there were many people out in their yards and he/she was unaffected. My neighbor came out so I asked her if she had seen them today. She said yes, there are 5 of them and they've been around for several weeks. There is a mother and 4 young ones. She is kinda bummed because this bench was built by her husband a couple of weeks ago and she said they think it was built FOR THEM and they sit up on top like that and eat. She said she finds the leftover bones on the bench. So for her, what started out to be something kinda tranquil to have is a bit different.

She's hoping they move on soon because it has affected the appearance of the other birds. Those cardinals I was talking about? She finally saw one of them yesterday and hadn't seen them much lately- I'm sure they are afraid to come out. They are shy birds to begin with. This is the hawk's home for now.

As I was sitting out there a bit later- I heard all of them- calling from various areas. At one point I heard 3 of them together and looked up and they were all in the tree in my backyard. Evidently the one I saw this morning is one of the youngsters.

All very cool as far as I'm concerned until we start seeing all the other birds etc disappearing This area is not really big enough to feed 5 hawks so I too hope they move on soon.

BTW- my neighbor did say that she has no intention of becoming a JW !

((((Kate))) thanks for the story- I can only imagine in my mind what that fight between the owls and the hawk must have been like. I'd love to see something like that. Cute little visitors you had too !! Thanks for sharing the pics!!

FHN-yes, interesting stuff eh? I love it !!

FireDragon- I wish you could see this- it's pretty cool !!

AlanF- LMAO- you best stay in the house !!

LOL Valis- want some cheese with that rabbit? I promise I won't let them get your squirrel

LL- LOL- they better leave my frogs alone too !!

4JWY- I'm sorry about your chicken- Yikes !! My neighbor said she's a bit afraid to let her cat out- I guess the Momma is pretty big. I doubt that a hawk would go after a cat but you just never know eh?

I'll have my camera in hand and be looking for more good shots of them.

Thank you to Purza, FBF, soledad, Celia, AuntieJane and Sunspot for participating in my adventures today. I had a good time with it.

LOL, I've been humming CCR all day too!

I showed my hubby your post, XW, before he left for work. He's as bad as I am when it comes to watching the wildlife out back!

I'm a bit older than most of the posters on here, and I told him how much I sit here in awe of how XW sees a bird, takes a pic, and puts it up so we can see it---just a few moments before I saw the post!!! It boggles my mind!

You should have seen MY first camera! It was called a box camera, and it did indeed, look like a box! It took pretty good pictures, too! I mostly took pictures of my cat and my dolls! (I was about 9 at the time)

Instead of going to the pharmacy and waiting a week or so to get film developed---now we can magically snap a shot and exhibit it on the web within moments!!!

    Amazing!

    Thanks for a great thread!

    hugs,

    Annie

PS---that was funny about the JWs and how they got edgy when you took their pic!
