Update:
This bench is in my next door neighbor's yard. While this one was out there were many people out in their yards and he/she was unaffected. My neighbor came out so I asked her if she had seen them today. She said yes, there are 5 of them and they've been around for several weeks. There is a mother and 4 young ones. She is kinda bummed because this bench was built by her husband a couple of weeks ago and she said they think it was built FOR THEM and they sit up on top like that and eat. She said she finds the leftover bones on the bench. So for her, what started out to be something kinda tranquil to have is a bit different.
She's hoping they move on soon because it has affected the appearance of the other birds. Those cardinals I was talking about? She finally saw one of them yesterday and hadn't seen them much lately- I'm sure they are afraid to come out. They are shy birds to begin with. This is the hawk's home for now.
As I was sitting out there a bit later- I heard all of them- calling from various areas. At one point I heard 3 of them together and looked up and they were all in the tree in my backyard. Evidently the one I saw this morning is one of the youngsters.
All very cool as far as I'm concerned until we start seeing all the other birds etc disappearing This area is not really big enough to feed 5 hawks so I too hope they move on soon.
BTW- my neighbor did say that she has no intention of becoming a JW !
((((Kate))) thanks for the story- I can only imagine in my mind what that fight between the owls and the hawk must have been like. I'd love to see something like that. Cute little visitors you had too !! Thanks for sharing the pics!!
FHN-yes, interesting stuff eh? I love it !!
FireDragon- I wish you could see this- it's pretty cool !!
AlanF- LMAO- you best stay in the house !!
LOL Valis- want some cheese with that rabbit? I promise I won't let them get your squirrel
LL- LOL- they better leave my frogs alone too !!
4JWY- I'm sorry about your chicken- Yikes !! My neighbor said she's a bit afraid to let her cat out- I guess the Momma is pretty big. I doubt that a hawk would go after a cat but you just never know eh?
I'll have my camera in hand and be looking for more good shots of them.
Thank you to Purza, FBF, soledad, Celia, AuntieJane and Sunspot for participating in my adventures today. I had a good time with it.
