Don't know about now, but they most certainly did in WW2. My parents were JWS during this time and have told me that there were reports of this going on.

Because of terrorist activities such as 9/11, etc., the US government has greatly broadened its agencies powers to spy and snoop. The US Patriots ACT allows certain government agencies to gather about any kind of information they want about whomever they want. This includes tapping phones without local law enforcement knowledge or approval. Due to technology the means of acquiring all kinds of information is available or becoming available and WILL be used. An example is a computer chip that automobile manufactures are going to be required to install in all new vehicles. This chip will transmit data regarding where the vehicle is driven, where it stays parked, how fast it is driven and so forth. Think about how this information can be analyzed and used by an authoritarian entity. Religion and anyyone else concerned with liberty and privacy needs to be worried.

IMHO I would think sure the FBI and CSIS and INTERPOL have agents that watch the comings and goings of the WTS.
Look what they, (The American Government ) did to the BRANCH DAVIDIAN group. So that is why I believe they keep a close watch on religioius CULTS.
It is been told to me that persons in governmental organizations do infiltrate the organization to see the depths of the group and yes look what they did in WW2

The reasons the Witnesses were banned in Canada and Nazi Germany was not because of their religious activity but because of their political activity. The Witness group is a subversive anti government group that is political in nature. Their goal is to see all the world's governments overthrown to be replaced by their own.
The Witnesses are so political that they have been forced to make the denial of that fact one of their core doctrines. The facts show that instead of being politically inactive and neutral, the Witness group is the MOST politically active group using a religion front in the United States. The Witnesses hold the record for being the most politically active "religion" in the Judicial branch of the Federal Government of the United States.
The Witness leaders were thrown in prison in 1917 and the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation was shut down for their political activities. What other religion was shut down for political activity? The Witnesses led in lobbying for the repeal of prohibition in the 30's. How many other religions lobbied for repeal of prohibition?
All I heard when I was associating with the Witness people in the 50's and 60's was the establishment of the Theocracy and the overthrow of the other governments. The Witness group is a political group and should be watched very closely. -

This occurred only in one Province in Canada, that being Quebec.
It was back in the 50s? and it was thanks to an iron fisted Provincial leader (that would be like a state governor to you Yanks) name Maurice Duplessis.
He had a personal gripe with JWs and Communists (to name a few). THe JWs always try and play up the angle of Quebec being so dominated by the Roman Catholic church who influenced Duplessis. The Catholics were very dominant in all aspects of Quebec life in the 50s, Quebec is still probably the most Catholic Province in Canada and the Catholics were suspicous of both JWs and Communists (turns out they were right about the commies who tried to assasinate the Pope) but most people have come to realize that Duplessis was in fact more than a little nutty.
JWs were able to legally fight this tyranny by Duplessis and restore their religious (cult) freedoms in Quebec.

I'd like to know what status the JWS have with the Faith based White House ideas... I imagine that as they (JWs)are a fairly right wing leaning,Fundamentalist Religious group,they will be quite popular with the current administration

The RCMP may very well keep an eye on the WTS. I assumed CSIS did as well, as they have some info about doomsday cults on their web site.
I pretty sure the JWs were under ban in Canada during part of WWII as well. I remember some old time JWs still whining about it.
