Witness logic and reason applied to bread, fallacy of logical conclusions

Witnesses like to use logic and reason to support their ideas. Here is what happens when logic and reason is applied to food.

    BREAD

    1. More than 98 percent of convicted felons are bread users.

    2. Fully HALF of all children who grow up in bread-consuming
households score below average on standardized tests.

    3. In the 18th century, when virtually all bread was baked in
    the home, the average life expectancy was less than 50 years;
infant mortality rates were unacceptably high; many women died
in childbirth; and diseases such as typhoid, yellow fever, and
    influenza ravaged whole nations.

    4. More than 90 percent of violent crimes are committed within
    24 hours of eating bread.

    5. Bread is made from a substance called "dough." It has been
proven that as little as one pound of dough can be used to
suffocate a mouse. The average American eats more bread than
    that in one month!

    6. Primitive tribal societies that have no bread exhibit a low
incidence of cancer, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease, and
    osteoporosis.

    7. Bread has been proven to be addictive. Subjects deprived of
bread and given only water to eat begged for bread after as
    little as two days.

    8. Bread is often a "gateway" food item, leading the user to
"harder" items such as butter, jelly, peanut butter, and even
    cold cuts.

    9. Bread has been proven to absorb water. Since the human body is
more than 90 percent water, it follows that eating bread could
lead to your body being taken over by this absorptive food
product, turning you into a soggy, gooey bread-pudding person.

    10. Newborn babies can choke on bread.

    11. Bread is baked at temperatures as high as 400 degrees Fahrenheit!
That kind of heat can kill an adult in less than one minute.

    12. Most American bread eaters are utterly unable to distinguish
between significant scientific fact and meaningless statistical
    babbling.

In light of these frightening statistics,
we propose the following bread restrictions:

    1. No sale of bread to minors.

    2. A nationwide "Just Say No To Toast" campaign, complete celebrity
    TV spots and bumper stickers.

    3. A 300 percent federal tax on all bread to pay for all the societal
ills we might associate with bread.

    4. No animal or human images, nor any primary colors (which may
appeal to children) may be used to promote bread usage.

    5. The establishment of "Bread-free" zones around schools.

    ****************************

The fallacy of the logical conclusion when using reason even when facts are applied can result in way wrong ideas.

And... I just read this the other day:

Most people are unaware that autopsies reveal that over 99% of crininals killed while commiting a crime were shown to have eaten bread during their last 24 hours of life.

Are we not happified that we are not fooled by Satan's evil designs? The Faithful slave keeps us abreast of world events through its timely publications.

I spent a day in exit counseling a few years ago and during that day all the tactics used by high control groups were laid out and debunked. The easiest to debunk was the fallacy of the logical conclusion and the bread story highlights that. The Witnesses say the world is getting worse because of the reports of war and crime on CNN and in the newspapers but that is a fallacy. In fact the world is not changing at all. Communication is changing, the media is changing, but the world in reality is not changing.

The planet earth is a very pretty place and it is perfectly suited for humans, animals and plants. The reason there is no good news reports is that there is so much good news it would be impossible to report. Good news is so common that it's not news. How many people made safe trips today? Lots! How many people went to bed last night not hungry? Lots!

Facts and history can be used to put a spin on about anything. I studied the difference between objective and subjective and between fact and dogmatism and I began to see how the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation worked their agenda. Dogmatic is opinion stated as fact. Most of what is printed by the Society is dogmatic because they have no way to prove statements like Jesus appointed them in 1919 as fact.

Just because a line of reason is supported by facts, and just because a line of reasoning is appealing like the promise of a paradise earth, doesn't make it real. Can it pass an objectivity test? Is it real or is it flawed reasoning?

Another huge mistake made by people like me was overlooking the soundness of the assumptions needed to hold up a line of reason. If a line of logic like the appointment doctrine, seems reasonable, look at the assumptions. Are they provable as fact? If the assumptions are opinion and not supported as fact, that needs to be disclosed or the assumptions can not bear any weight.

My biggest mistake was in not identifying my assumptions and giving those assumptions weight and value. Is the Society who they say they are? Is it provable? Or did I just make that assumption because my parents believed it? Or did I just accept it as fact because the people who were making the claim told me.

If I question the "BREAD" thesis, I am a skeptic. Is it okay to be a skeptic about beard but not about religion? Or is it okay to check out religious assumptions with an open mind?

My HS Social Studies teacher gave us an interesting example of this reasoning:

Statistics show that more ice cream is consumed during hot weather than during cold weather, thus, the consumption of ice cream causes temperatures to rise

The only thing worse than eating bread is owning a dog.

The Bible makes only two references to birthdays, and both of them were associated with something bad. Therefore, JWs do not celebrate birthdays.

Using the same logic, I did a scan on the word ?dogs?, and found something very interesting. Dogs are mentioned 25 times in the Bible. In every single case, they are associated with something bad.

    - Dogs are associated with sinners

    - Food that is unacceptable to humans can be thrown to the dogs

    - Dogs lick up blood and eat dead bodies of sinners

    - Dogs hang out with bad people

    - Vicious men are likened to dogs.

    - Dogs are a euphemism for evil men who mutilate flesh

    - They are used to symbolize greed and lack of restraint

Therefore, it is highly inappropriate for Christians to associate with, own, or otherwise fraternize with dogs. In fact, by my calculations, Dogs are 1250% more evil than birthdays. Consider the evidence:

1 Kings 21:19 : Say to him, 'This is what the LORD says: Have you not murdered a man and seized his property?' Then say to him, 'This is what the LORD says: In the place where dogs licked up Naboth's blood, dogs will lick up your blood-yes, yours!' "

1 Kings 16:4 : Dogs will eat those belonging to Baasha who die in the city, and the birds of the air will feed on those who die in the country."

1 Kings 14:11 Dogs will eat those belonging to Jeroboam who die in the city, and the birds of the air will feed on those who die in the country. The LORD has spoken!'

Exodus 22:31 : "You are to be my holy people. So do not eat the meat of an animal torn by wild beasts; throw it to the dogs.

1 Kings 21:23 : "And also concerning Jezebel the LORD says: 'Dogs will devour Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.'

1 Kings 21:24 "Dogs will eat those belonging to Ahab who die in the city, and the birds of the air will feed on those who die in the country."

1 Kings 22:38 : They washed the chariot at a pool in

2 Kings 9:10 : As for Jezebel, dogs will devour her on the plot of ground at Jezreel, and no one will bury her.' " Then he opened the door and ran.

2 Kings 9:36 : They went back and told Jehu, who said, "This is the word of the LORD that he spoke through his servant Elijah the Tishbite: On the plot of ground at Jezreel dogs will devour Jezebel's flesh.

Job 30:1 : "But now they mock me, men younger than I, whose fathers I would have disdained to put with my sheep dogs.

Psalm 22:16 Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet.

Psalm 22:20 : Deliver my life from the sword, my precious life from the power of the dogs.

Psalm 59:6 : They return at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl about the city.

Psalm 59:14 : They return at evening, snarling like dogs, and prowl about the city.

Psalm 68:23 : that you may plunge your feet in the blood of your foes, while the tongues of your dogs have their share."

Isaiah 56:10 : 's watchmen are blind, they all lack knowledge; they are all mute dogs, they cannot bark; they lie around and dream, they love to sleep.

Isaiah 56:11 : They are dogs with mighty appetites; they never have enough. They are shepherds who lack understanding; they all turn to their own way, each seeks his own gain.

Jeremiah 15:3 : "I will send four kinds of destroyers against them," declares the LORD , "the sword to kill and the dogs to drag away and the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth to devour and destroy.

Matthew 7:6 : "Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.

Matthew 15:26 : He replied, "It is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to their dogs."

Matthew 15:27 : "Yes, Lord," she said, "but even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table."

Mark 7:27 : "First let the children eat all they want," he told her, "for it is not right to take the children's bread and toss it to their dogs."

Mark 7:28 : "Yes, Lord," she replied, "but even the dogs under the table eat the children's crumbs."

Luke 16:21 : and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.

Philippians 3:2 : Watch out for those dogs, those men who do evil, those mutilators of the flesh.

When I first came in contact with JWs I didn't know the bible well at all, so they were able to "prove" the things they said with their preselected proof texts from it. I soon became lazy about verifying the things they taught, assuming they were right. It was a costly mistake. Now I take little at face value, and I try to maintain a healthy skepticism about anything I can't personally verify.
