A JW can only be "jolted" if they *want* to be jolted.

Well....
They tend to dig in their heels if you "jolt" them...
I certainly was that type...
It took some time for it to sink in and for me to finally put two and two together...
You can lead a horse to water but you can make him drink (unless he's thirsty).

It can't be done. Any belief system can be defended by a dexterious mind. There is no neutral panel weighing the arguments. Have you ever heard David Duke defend segregation, racism? He can be quite compelling.
It's been said many times, frequently by Alan F. A JW has to experience unkindness, injustice, a hurt so deep that they back away far enought to take an objective look.
Throwing scandals, failed prophecies and hypocracies at a JW is as ineffective as arguing the trinity, hellfire, etc. with a Baptist. Attempting either is futile.

But you can sure as hell make him wish he had!!! Where's my baseball bat?
I think the best way to get them to think is to just show them that your out and not a miserable pile of $hit anymore... Unless you still are! Then your sort of up the creek...

I'm new here and a virgin apostate wannabe as well but I can't help but value and appreciate the shear numbers of "jolted jw's present. Maybe the question ought to be rephrased to "what's the best way YOU where jolted into ' thinking' ??? " . Like take a poll or something. Wow would that be the list of the new year.
Oh btw i'm taking my mom down to Georgetown Ontario Canada (Halton Hills) tomorrow to visit with one of my sisters for a couple days and thought for some potential apostate fun I would take a tour of the Canadian bethal HQ's. Anything there worthy of taking note of ?

Funny when I first left the witlesses I wasn't anti-witness I was anti-god! For the first year I was out I actually defended the witlesses beliefs on several occasions! It was while defending them to people that I realized that not only was there no god but the dubs were the worst of the current crop of "christian" religions... (they may not be the worst cult out there tho') So for me the jolt wasn't even anti-watchtower... odd

Religious belief is more often than not based on emotion, not logic or reason. Jolting, is more likely done from a source "inside" rather than from without! Those "marked" DF'd or mistreated are the "jolted" and are willing to risk looking outside the cave!

It was said that the average Roman worried more for the pebble in his shoe than for the well being of the Empire. It's not uncommon to hear rank and file Witnesses say things critical of their elder body. That's one opening to get them thiniking about the SUPREME elder body in Brooklyn. But in the end, it has to be an internal realization.
