Filip,
You mentioned your dilema about JW's being right or wrong and the idea of you being 'brainwashed'. The best asset you can develop is the ability to think critically. Critical thinking is the the ability to draw conclusions or make judgements based on a thorough, careful, and objective review of the available evidence. It often requires you to step outside of your own preconceptions in an attempt to arrive at the truth of a matter. This can be particularly difficult if the matter you are considering threatens notions you cherish or appeals to desires you seek. Money is a classical example. Most people desire more money. When presented with an 'opportunity' that fulfills their desire for money many have cast aside critical thinking. As a result people are scammed out of their own money for the promise of much more later on. Religion too is classic. The paradise promised by the Watchtower Society is akin to winning the lottery and finding the fountain of youth, combined. Can you see what draws so many people toward this belief? It's that very 'spiritual lottery', along with health doses of manipulation, fear, and guilt, that keeps people trudging on despite clear evidence to the contrary. Countless other 'spiritual guides' make similar promises for their flocks sometimes with disasterous outcomes. The fact that the Society pushes their own brand of religion does not necessarily make it incorrect. However, realize that religion has, over the course of history, been used make make all sorts of people, of all types of intellect, believe and do things they never would have considered otherwise. I chuckled when AlanF first mentioned it, but it is so true; we are all born with Bullsh*t detectors in us. Bold claims require bold evidence. It's time to tune yours up cuz you''re going to need it. This is your best defense against 'brainwashing'.
