Please forgive me, and accept my apology. I had not read your second post, and so had no idea about your daughter. After something that another poster said to me I went back through searching for what he might have been talking about.

If man was truly made in God's image, then God is a real dirtbag.
If Yadirf was made in God's image, then God is a huge turd bucket.
Lastly, the hard evidence available to us shows that God doesn't give a rat what we do or don't think about Him or anything else. If he does, he's impotent or lazy, or both. If he doesn't, then he's worse than your average human.
From what we can observe in life it's not only clear that God doesn't give a shit, but worse: he doesn't give a shit that he doesn't give a shit.

Interesting thread with lotsa different comments.
As I am coming around to a realization that there may be no god and evolution may be the cause of all the life, it is a comfort to me. Ironically, to know there is no 'justice' to be found, no supernatural help, and no one to set things right someday. That is, of course, except the humans who often work very hard trying to protect society and mete out justice.
It is a great tragedy to see ones we love suffer. But to me, it's a comfort to just say 'what is, is.' All living things on earth have come and gone and that's the way it is. We laugh, we cry, etc. To me, it helps put things in perspective.
Not that I'm trivializing your or anyone else's pain. But it seems enormously more grievous to wait endlessly on divine intervention that never comes. It's tragic to put your hopes and trust in unreality. Didn't Paul say that if in this life only we have trusted in God, we are MOST to be pitied among men?
Who feels better NOT being in control and leaving it all up to something for which there is dubious evidence

Oh, Farkel,
You seem to be as sentimental and emotional as I am. I suspect the God I believe in feels the same way about the mess we’re in. Whether a He is a “Dirtbag”, “turd bucket”, “impotent or lazy” or “doesn’t give a S…..” will only be known sometime in the future. I have the same emotions, but without such certainty as to who to blame. The only difference, Fark, is if your right I will be disappointed. If I’m right, no one will be disappointed. But right now I’m in no state of mind to debate.

Of course, you never managed to state exactly what it was I needed to "discern." That makes it pretty convenient for you. Don't tell anything that requires discernment, then tell me I'm a fool for not discerning what you didn't tell me to discern.

That makes sense. According to the Bible, I was born in God's image. I'm a rat. Rats don't deserve any hope. Since I was made in God's image, therefore, God is a rat and doesn't deserve any hope, either.

I'm speaking only of what we can observe versus the God the Bible describes. Too many people think that the God of the Bible is the ONLY possibility of a "God." I beg to differ. Am I a man dreaming I'm a butterfly, or a butterfly dreaming I'm a man? God only knows!

Once again, I'm assuming you are referring to the God described by the Bible. If that is the case, I can't be faulted for blaming something that doesn't exist for me.

If we're both dead and God DOES care we won't be disappointed, either! It's a win/win deal. That is, unless God enjoys eternal human barbecues. Slim chance that, though. Think about it.

Your feelings totally matched the ones I have regarding "God". So much so, that I sent the URL to my daughters for them to read it. My heart goes out to you and your children. I realize that your feelings about God do not altogether come from that situation, but nevertheless, I feel for you and yours. Thanks for posting this thread.
