    The other day I went in for a routine physical and today I got the results in the mail. It turns out my Cholesterol is out of wack and needs to be corrected.

    (Normal) Numbers in parenth are what my levels should be.

    Cholesterol = 249 ( < 200 )

    Triglycerides = 277 ( < 150 )

    HDL Cholesterol = 32 ( > 39 )

    Calculated LDL CHOL = 162 ( < 100 )

    Risk Ration LDL / HDL = 5.05 ( < 3.55 )

    Things like that sure can ruin an evening and rattle one?s nerves.

    Tomorrow I'll call my Dr and setup an appointment.

    Good news is that all of my other blood work turned out to be normal and looks very good.

    Usually blood pressure and cholesterol can be taken care of with a change in diet and exercise (exercise only raises HDL cholesterol, but it doesn't lower LDL). Try diet and exercise, with the doctor's recommendations of course, before anyone puts you on drugs.

    Good luck,

    Ask if you can be referred to a dietician. They'll work with you to help you get those numbers back to where they should be. Don't be surprised if they want you to lay off the fast food and other junk food and focus on healthier fare, and get you to increase aerobic exercise.

    Make sure they schedule a follow-up appointment within 3-6 months to see if there's any improvement. You might also want to find out if your Hemoglobin A1C (aka: glycosated hemoglobin) is where it should be, as this sometimes goes hand in hand with elevated cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and it's a red flag for type 2 diabetes.

    Take care of yourself!! We need you around here for a long long time!

    Love, Scully

    This and your foot too...I feel so badly for you. You seemed like a nice enough chap that you do not need this. I know you can knock those numbers down soon. Spark

    I remember about five years ago when mine was a little high. That's all I talked about for weeks. Try to get a little more exercise and watch what you eat. (Yes, you've got to stop eating MacDonald's Fries every day)

    Elsewhere,

    Go to a health food store and buy Red Yeast Rice. It is a natural product which lowers the cholesterol in your blood considerably, and it is cheap as well. It is distributed by a company named NOW- FOODS, most health food stores buy from that company. if not, you might be able to order it on line. it is completely harmless, anyone can take it, and you will see results within 6 weeks.

    I never believed in natural supplements until I started seeing some real results. The natural supplements are better for you and often a lot cheaper than what the pharmacy has to offer.
