    Elsewhere,

Well at least you are willing to work on it better late than never!

    Putternut,

Please remind me of never telling you my petty problems......kidding! That was harsh and funny yet honest I love it! I like to be upfront and really honest. Do you have any friends? Kidding again. Much love to you.

Elsewhere. Yes those numbers are even above high norms and I am so sure a handsome man like yourself will take care of his health so he is here a long time to come. I saw your pic from the Dallas 2005, and you look good so I am certain with a little love to yourself and well being you'll be as fit as a fiddle in no time flat..

    Love

    Orangefatcat.

PS: someone mentioned taking lipitor, I was using that med from my cardiologist and I was latter informed to stop taking it because it can cause neuromuscular degeneration. So now I am on a new med. call pravastatin also called pravachol,

    Lipitor: http://www.cqs.com/lipitor/htm

just thought I would pass this on.

Else: Sorry, man...that's a bit of a shocker, but those numbers can be dropped down fast, and shouln't scare you.

Oats are great, and so are veggies. seafood has HDLs (Apostaboil!). and Water, water, water...lay off nuts, too, and lower dairy some (not too much). Meat is still ok, just trim fat where you can (Ground chuck instead of ground, for instance, and hold the mayo and/or cheese).

but talk to a doc for sure.

I've actually been worrying about that today! I looooove seafood, especially crustaceans, but the health labels always say that crustaceans have very high cholesterol. So is the cholesterol in crustaceans the HDL (good) kind?

I did a quick internet search and here is what I found... Craw Daddies are infact GOOD for cholesterol levels because they have almost no fat and fat affects cholesterol levels more than cholesterol itself.

(Yes, I know, the authors of this article do have a Seafood agenda, so if anyone finds something more independent it would be greatly appreciated)

DR: "Mr. Elsewhere, I have some bad news"

Elsewhere: "Yes Dr. what is it? Tell me."

Dr: "Well from now on you have to follow this rule - If it tastes good spit it out...all the way out"

    Elsewhere: "Damn"

Sorry to hear about that, Elsewhere. Kinda puts a crimp in your eating habits.

My husband has had to deal with this. My husband is in very good physical shape and eats healthy food, but its just the darned genetic thing that causes trouble for him.

The red yeast thing fairchild mentioned does work rather well, as my husband used it for awhile. My husband is currently using up a Rx which he got before his insurance coverage ended... Btw, he also thinks that a slow-release niacin supplement should also work well, because it is pretty much what you're getting in most cholesterol-lowering Rxs. (He's gonna try that soon.) ...Just FYI, here's what he plans to get next: http://www.endur.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=products.displayproduct&id=25&prid=gooextendedreleaseniacin&cr=20

Hang in there, and think healthy!

Make sure you follow up with your doctor. I had a heart attack at 35....I ate relatively healthy and was active. Yet my cholesterol at the time of the heart attack was 295! I was only 35, so I had never had my cholesterol checked, didnt think I needed to. I had to have angioplasty done and even after a major excercise schedule and eating everything healthy, nothing that tasted good at all, my cholesterol was still up there. I had to go on Lipitor, which I've never had problems with. I've been on it 3 years now, and will probably always have to take it. So it's not always just because of what you eat/dont eat, excercise/dont exercise. So now I tell everyone, get your cholesterol checked no matter your age!
