Ever drive by a car accident? Especially one where the road isn't blocked, but the traffic is reallllllyyyyy slllloooowwwww? Why? Cause people are stopping to LOOK!

I've always thought this was sick, sick, sick. It's the same thing. Morbid curiosity, fascination with violence, I dunno what's wrong with people. I remember being one of those victims, bloodied, in shock, with all the faces of the crowd pressing in around me. Not people who were there to help. The EMT's were there, had already done their job (jaws of life, etc.).

Maybe folks don't 'get it', that this kind of thing is 'real', that it's flesh and blood people on these videos. Someone's father, mother, son, sister, etc.

    It sickens me.

74 I totally understand where you're coming from! When 9 11 happened, I was flipping through all the news channels and landed on BBC. They decided to show people jumping from the roof and top floors of the WTC and having the camera on them all the way. That image was so unerving and unsettling and just horrible. It's still in my head to this day. I see no reason why such things should be taped, it's a tragedy not entertainment. hg

Ok I never told anyone this.

I was downloading Britney Spears music(I know I am sorry I did it again lol)Anyway I had the video and I was going to play it. Well it was not the song or the video. Remember that News Guy who had his head decapitated? I can't remember what his name was but it was all over the news people downloading it to watch it. I would never do such a thing. I remember as it was playing I looked at it in fear and disbelief that it would be that video I heard about on the news. I didn't want to come close to the computer so I shut my eyes to turn it of and I heard everything it was so scary and inhumane. I still have nightmares about it. What gets me is that they hide that under something that is not bad just think of all the teenage girl who may have downloaded the same video as i wanted.

Mmmm?this is interesting because I have no problem with seeing such images in the news as a result of war, crime etc. I just find it offensive when it is used as entertainment

Disgusting.... that is the thing, why package that so little kids can see it (not that I am calling you a little kid :-). I know if my son would have seen that and he was trying to get a Brittney Spears song I would use every networking tool in the world find the SOB who did it and flat out pumple him, after that I would deal with my son for downloading such trash.....

Ahh, hg---but the thing is I remember seeing those images live on 9-11 as well...maybe it becomes a matter (for me) of intent not just by the media...With those people jumping out of the WTC towers, they weren't intending to hurt others and I don't think it was the media's intent (in the beginning) with the live footage to air something shocking. They were lasting and harsh images, I don't disagree at all. But I understood it...the act and the airing.

With what I saw recently (Budd Dwyer), neither the act nor the continual watching makes any sense.

I used to be pro death penalty in my early post-jdub existence. i guess that stance had slipped into my brain from all the lurid tales of death wrought by the iron fist of God for any minor infractions or act of disrespect. this ideology was spoon fed to us dub children with the infamous, My Book of Bible Stories http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/86455/1.ashx .

anyway ... i actually rented one of the 'Faces of Death' series. i was young, with friends, and i'm sure some drugs were involved ... but there was this segment of a man being electrocuted. I've been anti-death penalty ever since. it was the most horrible thing i've ever seen. it still gives me the willies just talking about it now.

but us dub children were weaned on the stories of god's wrath ... and gleefully looked forward to his most elaborate mass murder ever.
