NL2 - I did read your link. This is sponsored by RIGHTMARCH.COM and appears to be an attempt to politicize what should be a private matter. There were a disturbing number of requests for monetary donations. I saw no compelling evidence that would lead me to believe the parents' version vs. the husband's version.

Unfortunately this woman's wishes aren't documented in writing. That is why the courts have been involved and have handed down numerous rulings, supported by experts and existing law.

I corrected the link on my post above.

Congress is getting involved becqause it wants to buy time to investigate the allegations that Michael has been an abusive husbandand may have been the direct cause for Terri's condition.

I'm working on a post that will back up the need to investigate this allegation further.

Here is another link to back up my statements:

I think this scenario is setting a dangerous precedent. Next thing you know they'll be starving alzheimers patients to death. Many of them are in a vegetative state.

But here's the part that really bothers me: why is Congress getting involved?

Remember all the debate about assisted suicide and euthanasia in the Jack Kevorkian era?

Could it be......that the "powers that be" are looking for the loophole to legally have some sort of assisted suicide.......just short of euthanasia?

I think some conspiracy theory has solid ground. Even though I don't like......nor agree with it.

Moral to this story: If you get real sick.....just make sure all of your affairs are in order. My daughter has all of my wishes for life support removal in writing from an attorney.

    bisous,

World Net Daily is a private Online NewsMagazine. It supports itself with ADVertising, as does CNN.Com et all. I linked to ONE article on that site. At the bottom of that ONE article that I linked to are lots of links, and when followed will spell out the allegations of abuse by Michael toward Terri.

Did you read ALL of those linked articles?

And that's exactly my point. Since when is investigating medical malpractice (or even domestic abuse) remotely Congress' responsibility? The Florida courts have been looking at this matter for 15 years. I don't see what Congress is going to find that the courts haven't already examined.

For all those concered about Schiavo being 'starved to death': this is no different than what happens hundreds of times a day, at hospitals and hospices all around the country, as feeding tubes are removed. The patient is given drugs so that they will not feel the pain. Even the most ardent right-to-lifers have never objected to this before.

Ok now, this is only my opinion:

I think that somehow Judge Greer, (who has been the primary judge in all this mess) has somehow joined forces with Michael and his co-horts. He has decided to 'close his eyes' to any evidence that seems to run contrary to Michael's position.

Appealing to Congress is the ONLY way to break this cycle and to allow a reasonable look at the OTHER side of the coin.

If, and I do say IF, Michael caused this to happen, don't you think that Terri's parents deserve to present this evidence in court. Judge Greer will NOT allow them to do this!

I don't think we know what Terri's wishes are. It's her husband's word against her parents.

There are two of her friends who also say that is her wish. It isn't just the husband's word.

From what I have heard (and it may well not be accurate), and money that he was awarded, as well as any life insurance that would come after her death has long been spent in medical costs that will eat it all up, so any chance of financial gain is non existent anymore.

Were it my child, I would want to do everything possible if there was a chance of recovering anything. But I would both understand and support my children's spouse should they decide that they needed to move on with their life should something terrible like this ever happen to them. I would not expect them to put their lives on hold.

It bothers me that he has refused her physical therapy or treatment of any kind - and that does make his motives a bit suspect. IMO, he should have sought a divorce and left her to the care of her parents years ago - that would have been the compassionate thing to do for all involved.

Let me also say that I think that government should stay out of individuals lives. If someone wants to die, and not suffer, that should be their individual right to choose. And a family should have that right as well if they are aware of wishes. I echo that a DNR and a medical directive stating ones wishes is absolutely necessary to avoid all of this.
