    Golf, and all,

    I know what you mean, & in a way I don't disagree, but perhaps I didn't explain properly what I meant. Lots of good news today...I didn't crash the car on the way to or from work, none of my loved ones died today, or yesterday or even the day before. My soon to be JW friend has left the door open slightly in that I am invited to memorial and he will remain my friend, at least for now. My wife's last chemo-therapy session tomorrow. A good book I forgot I ordered 4 months ago on internet arrived today. Perhaps good news is boring and not "newsworthy". But then if you are a believer the "good news of the Christ" might dominate our hearts and minds rather than the unscriptural obsession with Armageddon and looking for negative world events. Perhaps reading John 5:24 each morning (it speaks in the present tense) might start the day from the right perspective. Gotta admit, I sometimes suffer from depression, so I'm not saying I've got it sorted!

    I hope one day Jesus comes to obliterate all us unbelievers. Then he will have shown why he died for 'our' 'sins' and allowed us to live in misery for the entire history of mankind. Thanks Jesus.

    I believe Jesus will be coming very soon for the sake of our CHILDREN.

    It has been 2000 years now and I think that qualifies as a no-show.

    Any changes we want to make in this world have to made by us. The biggest change we can make is in ourselves. This includes our outlook and belief structure. The only thing we really control is ourselves, everything else is in the 'lap of the gods' and the problem is everyone has different gods!

    I've been reading through this and think that the consensus of this group is that;

    Christains are either deluded or lazy, and pass the buck for cleaning up the world to Jesus. And that if they did not believe that someone else was going to clean it up they'd do it themselves and it'd actually get done.

    Is that correct?

    generalizations are never accurate, so no.

    jeanniebeanz,

    Are you saying that christians have done nothing throughout history to alieviate the suffering and oppression in the world?To say that we have been sitting on our hands all these years is ridiculous. It is not hard to understand that as humans we can only do so much, also, it is not hard to understand that some ACCEPT this natural limitation and look to God to bring about this peace to mankind that we so desparately want and need.

    Myelaine,

    I can't figure out why you should believe so strongly that Jesus' second coming is imminent. That's what the Apostles believed and every generation since. Some people of every generation have stayed awake. In Luke 21:8 Jesus warned not to follow those who say "the time is very near now". I believe that is also the key message of Matthew 24 (not to have a preconceived idea of when the Master would return). Other than just being prepared, what has any of this got to do with Christianity or the gospel? The timing issue is nothing to do with the message, ie good news. The term good news of the Christ (or similar) is the norm, over 100 times, wheras the term "good news of the kingdom" is in single figures. I think perhaps a lot of this is based on misunderstandings. Just my thoughts,

    jeanniebeanz,

    Pardon me.

    anticipating comments, I would like to say that it has not escaped me that christians HAVE contributed to the oppression of mankind at different times, but it really remains to be seen if these were true christians. And aside from that, they will be held accountable.

    No worries. Christians on this board are often challenged vociferously. Good luck!
