It sure is a b*tch when they shoot back. Our boys got used to that in real hand-to-hand combat, with opponents whose technology more than matched our own, rather than picking on third-world countries.
Bout the only thing that grates, on this thread, (other than the cheese) is how many Americans still don't know the difference between England and Britain. Gosh I wish they'd start teaching geography over there
Does that explain the high incidence of "friendly fire", I wonder?

Mike...I have nothing but respect for the British in WWII. and Iraq for that matter... ya'all showed up with the goods from day one and have stayed the course.
We were trying to stay out during the late 30's (isolationists had some influence then) . Our own military was under-gunned until '42 and '43 plus we were trying to stay even on a couple of other fronts.
The US did what they could with Lend Lease and ,a few (Eagle Squadron, etc) contributed as individuals... as history tells the US was a little late getting into WWI too...but we came.
I have the Gold Stars and folded flags for a couple of my relatives who died in North Africa and Europe. God bless your dad and all of his brothers in arms.

Robyn:Well said. You may have hit the nail on the head. This would highlight a major difference between our countries. The US just alleviates said stress by invading another country...
Hehehehe. Yup. I think you may be right. However, last time I noticed, you all were right there with us....
I would say that both countries have alleviated enough stress and it's time for a smoke break.

When you 'kicked' the german hanoverians out of America you forget that the Brits never really wanted to fight you anyway and if they had you would be flying a different flag. :P
It's true. Still, you all did make a good run at us. Sorry we had to whup your English butts and all......

lets see ....England is England
Britain is England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland or is that the UK when lumped together..
the Republic of Ireland is seperate ?
the Commonweath is UK, OZ the Kiwis and Canucks?
Close?... forgive me Ross.... it's been a long time since I learned this in an American, grade 6, geography class.... Fo course we Americans were going the same route once upon a time and figured it would be damned easier to just call Alaska (bought) and Hawaii (how'd we end up with that) 'states" and be done with it. Besides, our flag looks better with an even 50 stars.
