    Hillbilly,

It must be noted the Anti- Semitism (and I like Jews for the record, I am related to a few) was about as prevelant as beans and bacon back in the early 20th century... If you thought Joe K was a breath of fresh air read some of the old Ford company newletters from the 20's and 30's... Henry was about as big a Jew Hater as you could get.... and from what I've read just about all the big money industrialist-tycoon types were not to wild about Jews either.

Very true, but as you might recall Henry Ford was Irish and the Irish Americans traditionally had issues with the Jews from the mid 1800's, most of it not based on ideological grounds.

However the point is that just a few years before entering the war against Germany, the US appointed as *ambassador* to Germany a nationally noted and respected figure who also happened to be a sympathizer with the Nazi's in general and Hitler in particular and only removed him from his post under pressure from the UK.

Jew haters were ten-a-penny in the twenties and thirties all over the world, but a Jew hating US ambassador, appointed to represent America in the heart of the Reichland was not.

HS--- I would'nt state this as fact-- just a feeling... Would you think that Poppa Joe was appointed to the German's because of his typical Irish prejudice for Jews?

AS I seem to remember, his appointment was as much a pay-off for favors to politicians and business he had helped over the years. Rose's father had been mayor of Boston at one time and that connection got him on the map so to speak.

I thought Poppa Joe spent some time as Ambasador to Ireland too?

Race baiting and predudice in early America was wide spread.... the New Group in town was always hate because they represented competion for jobs and housing with the other ethnic groups.

The Jews learned to survive in Europe they needed to be involved in small trades with big financial stakes... gold and diamond brokers, and later finance and banking led to the idea that Jews controlled the banks and finances .... and brought harm to the Gentile masses.

Did I mention that many folks who know figure Henry Ford slipped a cog or two?

    Brummie..I love you too

Now that the US Supreme Court uses European legal precedent to settle American law citizens of the US should get used to paying attention to what "foreigners" think.

Well that's the problem isn't. The US Supreme court should NOT look at your-peen precedent to settle US legal cases.

    edited to add.

but with liberals like Ruth Commie-baiter Ginsburg on the bench, it doesn't suprise me that they look to international precendent.

Thing is - it's very easy to criticise, even easier when you are criticing the richest country - cas you expect them to somehow live up to higher standards. I'll be honest - there are things I don't like about the US, environmental policy for one and I also don't like the way hollywood re-writes history and US citizens seem to believe it. But that doesn't mean I don't criticise my own country - there are a hundred and one things wrong at home, and if it wasn't for the predominance of members here from the US, we might see more of those subjects, I guess.

The American Revolution was fought to defend the rights of the American colonists as free Englishmen.

Most of the American Founding Fathers thought of themselves as being in the English Whig political tradition and thought that King George was overstepping his constitutional bounds.

Yes my fellow Americans, Britain has a constitution, albeit not in the way we are used to, and has spread the ideas of liberty, individuality and respect for private property to large sections of the Earth.

Who ended slavery in most of the world? The British Navy.

Three cheers for the United Kingdom!
