My aunt had a telephone hookup before she died. At one time the elders came and took the speaker from her home because some of the other JW's were saying that she could make it to the meetings. so we bought her a telephone with a speaker on it....

Now get this: "We need to get them to the meetings more. Publishers on the hook-up don't contribute anything." Do you reckon that's it? Is it about money? It usually is. It wouldn't surprise me a bit.
Interesting thought, but then they could have the brothers run by and pick it up.
Or have it taken out automatically every month electronically. Do some congos do that?

There was a time when 6 people were on the phones. The elders didn't like that but at least they were counted as being in attendance.

when my parents were taking care of my dying grandad.. they had phone hook up.. one night i was there helping with him because my mother was off in another state with my sis who was having a baby, the elder gets on the phone, DEMANDS to know what i;m doing there ( i was an active jw at the time) why wasnt i at the hall, why couldnt dad take care of grandpa without me for 2 hours , and that they really hesitated letting the hook up go thru that night because i was there. i finally told him to hook it up, i'd let the two old men listen and i'd watch tv for the 2 hours...........then he started apologizing, i finished getting dad and grandpa settled to listen to the meeting, then i went on to another room and DID watch tv lmao.... i swear, it was like they were scared an APOSTATE was gonna listen in! totally puzzled me back then but now i realize they are just freaky power hungry napoleons.

My Aunty was dying. She literally only lived another 7 or 8 days.
The CO turned up and said she should really try to attend the meetings. Someone must have an ambulance car somewhere that she could be taken in. Others managed it! She was devastated by his comments. He was lucky I didn't punch his lights out. Stupid ass head!

This reminds me of the experience told by an elder of visiting an older sister who had missed 6 weeks of meetings. Her husband was not a JW so they assumed he was keeping her from coming. They had not called during those six weeks, not even now when they were just dropping by unannounced. They knocked on the door and the worldly (sic) husband answered. They asked for the wife and the husband said she couldn't come to the door. The elder asked if he could leave the latest magazines for her and the husband said he didn't think she would be reading them since she had died 2 weeks ago and had been buried the day before and shut the door.
