Yes, friends, the almighty French have redeeemed themselves as they resoundly reject the European Union Constitution ... and because French Socialism is proving a dismal failure, not unlike its Soviet Communist counter-part, their cronie president, Jacque Chirac, has resigned. Yes, sir, it looks like a new "pro-American" Frenchman will become the next President of France. Which means that the French are willing to take some serious risks, ( get some big brass balls in American-ese) and align themselves more with capitalist USA. I feel so pleased, I ended my personal boycott of French products and bought some French jelly at the grocery store. Now, of course there will be set-backs as the lovers of leftist socialism fight for that 36 hour French work-week, blah, blah, blah ... but, the capitalists are on the move, and so, exciting times are ahead! Yes, sir-ee-sir!!!

Wow, what little knowledge of foreign affairs. First of all, Chriac isn't going to resign, the Prime Minister is. Chirac himself is centre-right.
What's so bad about socialism? Capitalism oppresses the everyday worker and life is made extra-easy for the rich.
I'm going to quote some of the l'Internationale:
No more deluded by reaction
On tyrants only we'll make war
The soldiers too will take strike action
They'll break ranks and fight no more
And if those cannibals keep trying
To sacrifice us to their pride
They soon shall hear the bullets flying
We'll shoot the generals on our own side.
No saviour from on high delivers
No faith have we in prince or peer
Our own right hand the chains must shiver
Chains of hatred, greed and fear
E'er the thieves will out with their booty [give up their booty]
And give to all a happier lot.
Each [those] at the forge must do their duty
And we'll strike while the iron is hot. -

Thanks TC for the corrections (which I was about to make).
Amazing1914, Chirac is to socialism and the 35-hour work week what jelly is to French gastronomy: foe, not friend.

What exactly is "French Jelly"?
Yes, the American Capitalistic experiment is just so overwhelmingly Amazing.....praise to the heaven be for our Capitalistic ways. Now that those frenchies have finally come to their senses...maybe now they will join us in invading Iran and even North Korea....those folks need liberating from dictatorship too.
I'm going to go puke now. -

I think Amazing is mistaken, the EU constitution is good for free trade and capitalism. It's the socialists who defeated it.
Constitutions shouldn't be books (like the EU one), but short and simple statements.

Classicist,
I agree on both accounts. If the "constitution" (in fact it's just another EU treaty) was short enough for the majority of people to read it, perhaps it wouldn't now be used to prove mutually exclusive agendas.
