I don't remember going out on field service much on Saturdays. I can only remember lazy mornings watching Swap Shop, Tiswas, Battle of the Planets etc then off to Manchester with mum and dad (3 hours in Kendals!), then back home in time for the footy results and Dr Who.

Sundays were awful in comparison. Morning spent knocking on doors if my rain dance had failed. Then 20 minute drive home for lunch. Then just as ITV football started it was suits on and taken back kicking and screaming to the afternoon meeting 3 till 5pm!!! Absolute torture. Home sometime after 6, then tea and That's Life on TV before bed.

KK, I found your posts very funny. I know virtually nothing about English pop culture but you made it so universal. I had the same experiences, only American style. I guess the dubs really are united.

    Katiekitten,

Very funny piece of writing. "Please, sir. May I have some more?"

Also I get offended if men on building sites dont wolf whistle me. I want to shout "OY whats up with you then, QUEEAH or something?"

    Hahahaha!!!

Swap Shop, Tiswas, The Phantom Flan Flinger, Dick Emery and the Two Ronnies, Phantom Raspberry Blower of Olde London Town, Blue Peter,Rhubarb and Custard, Will O The Wisp, The Wombles, Rentaghost, Moomins, Bagpuss, Muffin the Mule.
C'mon, you guys are making this stuff up, right!? I mean, The Phantom Flan Flinger!? Bagpuss?!

We jolly we are NOT making it up, I'll have you know sirrah - unhand my brit memories at once you bally blackguard! (all said in the Queens English).

What about Captain Pugwash, which had Roger the Cabinboy in it? Well, we never got it, but worryingly neither did our parents!

Best banned TV was all American stuff (you guys are just too naughty for us) Starsky and Hutch (in love with David Soul), Fame (totally NOT allowed to watch it and never managed to sneak it either - because it was worldly and all about wanting to be Famous which was Bad) Dukes of Hazzard (in love with whichever one was blonde) later on The A Team (in love with Face). Gosh what a TV whore I was.

Worst of all was saturday morning field service, because every kid in the entire world was sat in the living room in their dressing gowns eating bacon sarnies watching Swap Shop or Tiswas while I was outside in some high collared low hemmed christian dress my mum had made for me, freezing my nuts off trying place a magazine about the lesser spotted porridge weavil.

For Katie, TISWAS eventually meant....(breathes in) : "Today Is Saturday, Wear A (Low Hemmed Christian Dress And) Smile!" I love your writing style Katie, its very engaging... your descriptions of the fat women made me think of a Pink Floyd song...Cheers!
