    Hi Hawk,

:I am far from the "right" and thanks for the "ad hominem".

Well since you don't consider "right-wing lunatic" an oxymoron you can't be all bad.

:I have also followed McCain much further than you probably have and I know how he thinks.

As long as you didn't "look into his soul".

:He almost won the "ticket" the last time and his "message" was popular. BTW he got vast support not from the parties BUT from the - independents. What cost him was he started way too late in the game. What helped him was the media and Bush's lack of debating skills - something he got from his dad. What killed him - South Carolina and hacking up the "base" that even I hate - the Gerry Fawell(sp?) dudes.

You know, I heard there was some real nasty business in South Carolina, mostly perpetrated by some Christian Hardliners (not out to offend anyone). I heard tales (I have no sources, various pundits and reporters etc. is where I heard this) of some serious defamation of character going on there after the New Hampshire primary. Just talk but you never know....

:The "keating 5" was disgusting but it absolutely does not disqualify him from being the POTUS just like the incident with Teddy does not disqualify him. In fact I would urge him to run again if I could. But it is as they say a liability that either party would use against him.

I think he appeals to many centrist voters. That was a Clinton strength and it worked well for him and I am certain no candidate ever suffered pre-emptive attacks he was subjected to (i.e. Lee Attwater)

:ummm.... Aren't some islands in Alaska within a few hundred or so miles of Russia????

Oh yes!! Why if I slant the map just right, we are practically touching.

:Anyway - I say "Uncle". You have an excellent view. Your thinking and that is great. And I am proud you have your views. I will tell you that I respect them.

Well Hawk, that is most gracious of you and you have my thanks. I don't know that my view is "excellent", my biggest hardship: openmindedness. I work on it every day.

:Don't give up your independence, Julie, and fight for what you believe in. I apologize if I have offened you in anyway. You actually make me quite proud.

Even more gracious Hawk. I am glad you at least have the interest to be knowledgable on what's important to you. Wish more folks would make that effort, we'd all be better off.

    Spartacus,

Our outrage is that Bush said that he wouldn't support Kytoto because it was not good for the American economy. Money is his only concern. Our argument is with the Bush administration, not with the American people. We regard Bush as being someone who has no respect for human life, this in part due to his stance on the death penalty when he was a governor. Bush is 40 years behind the rest of the democratic world when it comes to human rights IMO.

Australia hasn't said / done any of the above so we don't give them flack.

And please dont take everything I say as a personal assault on your countrymen!

Dunno if this has been said or not, but i really don't care! First of all, Bush is an ass. He doesn't know what the hell he's doin, and if World War 3 is gonna happen, it's gonna be starring Mr. Bush. Second of all, The majority of Americans didn't vote for him. Most of us voted for Gore. However, the electoral college wanted an ass like Bush, which just proves their worthlessness now that Americans have enough knowledge to vote ourselves. This caused huge controversy, and after what happened during this election, I'll bet it will be done away with.

    Hawkaw,

You said: "Englishman, I think there is another reason why you don't rate him high and I don't really care."

I am most intrigued, please tell me more!

    Englishman,

I am looking forward to American coming fully behind carbon reduction, if not politically then in every other way. Americans won't miss the opportunities to make money out of it, nor should they. Best of luck to them. Kyoto has shown America to be a weaker world leader in political terms than had been thought.

    A note to Francoise:
I wonder whether you follow British politics much. Perhaps it is too unpleasant for you to look at. But Tony Blair is often called Son of Thatcher, his affection for Business is embarressing to the unions, he is engaged in privatising (in all but name) the London underground and areas the public health service, and is certainly the least socialist Labour politican ever at No 10. His smiles, which get under your skin so much are just window dressing, you have to look past that.

hawk, actually, you have to change the email response option yourself...edit one of your posts, or when you post a new one to this thread, look for the three options right above the submit or post button. the third option "Check here to be notified by email whenever anyone replies to this topic" make sure there is NOT a check mark there and the emails will stop! but you may have to edit every response you made on this thread..not sure but i'd double check..

    hope this helps

    hawk,

go to your first reply to this thread. go to the 'edit reply' button at the top right hand of your post.

now, down at the bottom of the 'reply' page under the heading "options," check the box that says "Check here to be notified by email whenever anyone replies to this topic."

    That should solve your problem.

I've had that happen to me, too. Sometimes it just does that automatically, so make sure that box doesn't have a check in it when you hit 'submit' to your first post.

I think the US is seeing a threat in the unification of europe and the development of the euro. This is effect the creation of a United Countries that could viably together win a war against the US.

There is clear evidence, both in the successive European treaties themselves and in pronouncements by the would-be designers of Europe, that the European Union was intended from the outset as a gigantic confidence-trick which would eventually hurtle the nations of Europe into economic, social, political and religious union whether they liked it or not. The real nature of the final goal – a federal superstate – was deliberately concealed and distorted; it was to be released in small doses, to condition those who would never have accepted it, until it would be too late for the whole process to be reversed.

I have read things along the lines that Germany is behind the unification of europe as a new world power.

Why was Norway the only european country, except Switzerland, to not join the European Union? Well, By keeping Norway out of the union, the US still have an alliey in Europe.

Why do you think russia did not allow norway's expert divers to come in and rescue their downed sub and potentially save the lives of the crew? Because Norway would be spying for the US on russian technology.

Norway has a border towards Russia. This is one of the reasons for being heavily protected by the US.

We may be seeing the start of a new cold war between the EU and the US. THe US is increasly hostile toward europe and vice versa.
