Didier:Of course!!! - there will be free will to accept or decline - St.Peter isn't so cruel as to force someone to play harp!

Hey Billy,
My gf is RC, albeit very liberal (humanist who goes to church sometimes and likes singing and incense but isn't too sure about the god thing at all).
I'm very aware that her attitude in life and mine are essentially identical, just expressed differently.
I just think it's unfair atheistic humanists don't get to sing much. Maybe that's what's missing - the Church of the Singing Humanists...
I also think that 'Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure' is a vastly under-rated film. The whole 'be excellent unto each other bit' being developed as a non-theistic world religion is a nice pastiche of the fundamental of the Jesus message (as I see it).
Be nice to each other, just because.

And the anthem would have to be "Bohemian Rhapsody" - excellent!!!

Oh yes, brothers and sisters, count me in for the Church of the Singing Humanists. I can play guitar so I volunteer to be in the band.
Can we do "All you need is love"? I know it's corny, but it's a good singalong and there's some nice chord changes in the chorus.

It makes sense... I mean, why shouldn't there be Humanist Gospel? Gospel actually means 'Good Story' or 'Good Words of Power' or 'Good Magic'
... and 'all you need is love' are a pretty powerful, magicall set of words.
Why should 'god' get all the good tunes?
"Good morning everybody! Today we're going to start our celebration of life and hope by singing 'Gallileo', that classic inspirational song by the Indigo Girls. We'll then move to 'Glad to be Gay', 'Shiney Happy People' and 'Eternal Life' before performing the Holy Bohemian Euhumanist..."

I'm there! Public talks perhaps on science, philosophy, the arts etc etc with debate and discussion afterwards, then more singing.
I'm learning the chords for Shiney Happy People as we speak.

Wow - thanks for the response - there's a hellofa lot of reading that I'm going to be doing in the next few years I guess. I think a lot of this anger has to do with being "rejected & ignored" by those people that knew me.....and I link those (jw)people with god.
I've actually done quite a bit of thinking over the weekend - all the stories like the tower of babel, the flood seem to my mind just be that - stories with a meaning - whether or not these events actually took place is another thing.
Someone on here - it could've been Abbadon (??) mentioned about "us making a difference" or trying to at least. So for my first step I'm going to be sponsoring 1 woman (for now) every month food, clothing & education - it's such a small start and perhaps pretty insignificant, I hope that in her life it helps to ease some suffering.
I know I can't get all the answers and know that I never will have them. All I want is for people just to be human to one another, have manners and just normal things like that.
Whether or not there is a God - that remains to be answered. As I said before haven't given up the notion of God, but in these last few days I feel abandonned by my mother (JW) and I feel abandonned by my Father (God) Perhaps it's because they finally disassociated me and announced it on Thursday just gone.
Again thank you.

you might want to consider staying away from 'bad news' for awhile. jw's and even the news media focus on all the bad things in the world and that's a hard mindset to break. i acknowledge the bad, but chose to focus on all the positive and good in the world. when i take walks in rural appalachia and come across some roadkill i can either chose to stop and look at it, become nauseated by the smell and looks, feel sorry for the poor animal, get angry at the driver that hit it or raise my eyes, hasten my gait and move forward, saying a prayer in my heart for the lost. Soon my focus is on the present and here and now and I can enjoy the sunshine, the fragrance of the wildflowers and the stunning mountains in our area. do what you can do locally in your community to help an underpriveleged person and know that every drop in the bucket counts.

Why?
Because (from a theistic perspective):
- An all-powerful, eternally existing God would be capable of forcing everything it created to do what it wanted.
- That capability would eventually lead to wondering what would occur if its creations were not forced to do what it wanted them to.
- It could not violate its rule against compulsion without ruining the experiment.
- It is the outcome of the experiment that is of prime importance, not the feelings or experiences of individual participants.
- The experiment isn't over yet.
Because (from an atheistic perspective):
- A segment of any population has aberrant compulsions.
- Sometimes these compulsions are considered unacceptable by the majority of a population.
- Sometimes the compulsions fall so far outside norm they are considered intolerable.
- Sometimes the compulsions fall so far outside that the majority have a difficult time even comprehending.
- Modern technology conveniently connects people with similar interests.
- Previously these aberrant people would not likely have encountered one another.
- There is a market for anything someone is willing to pay for, even intolerable compulsions.
- The market for intolerable compulsions is aided by the Internet.
Respectfully,
OldSoul
