"There is evidence that Jesus likely instituted specific times for gathering his followers together for worship."

LMAO! Ya, let's try that sentence with a different twist:

"There is evidence that Jesus likely told his disciples what He wanted for his Birthday.
"There is evidence that Jesus likely was married and had children"
"There is evidence that Jesus likely celebrated Mother's Day"
"There is evidence that Jesus likely went to the race track"

.......I mean, the list is endless..............they've got absolutely no proof or evidence whatsoever that Jesus instituted "specific times" for his followers to gather for worship.....and even if there were some evidence, I guarantee you that they would not have been expected to meet for 5 frigging meetings a week..........lest the Governing Body forget: Jesus was a Jew, not a Jehovah's Witness so at the most, he would have told his followers to meet once a week like the rest of the Jews did-----at a Synogogue or meeting place.

What idiots! I go in a couple of weeks to my assembly.........I'm gonna take notes (for the first time in 15 years), so I can post it here............

Of course they don't want you to go to college, where you will be encouraged to Question, Think Outside the Box, Research and express yourself in an educated manner. <------That's JW poison.....and would lead to......... APOSATACY!

And....they need young bodies out pounding the pavement, peddling magazines.

I wish I had been encouraged to go to college as a young person. They are doing a huge dis-service to the children by telling them to avoid college.

College educated folks are in no way snoby. My husband has advanced degrees and he is a nice person and does not look down on those without an education, or treat them any diffirently.

Re: the Dr. comments that's just BS! several of my friends and neighbors are physicians and they work hard, putting in long hours and genuinely care about their patients, I have a great respect for any profession choosen to help others.

Forgot to add that many of my old dub aquantances, never went to college or pursued a career and many of them are just scraping by. A few picked up a trade and are doing so/so.

    Why no college?

Because any student that goes to college will learn that Jerusalem most definitely was NOT destroyed in 607BCE. (The Watchtower Society claim to authority)

Any student that takes religious history classes will learn to identify cults. (The Watchtower Society)

Any student that takes a logic or debate class will learn to identify and call out fallacies. (The Watchtower Society literature)

Any student that takes psych classes will learn to identify emotionally abusive language. (The Watchtower Society literature)

Here's the irony, my super-dub dad would always say "how come there are hardly any doctors, attorneys <insert long-educated career path here> in dubbie land?"

then my sister and I would answer "umm, because the society discourages higher education and those professsions all require higher education."

then he would retort: "i mean, they could be worldly and get their education, then come into da troof" <with pre-installed doctorate, PHd, etc., i suppose>

I also forgot to add: Where would Jehovah's Witnesses be without doctors-----that's right, people who DID get a "higher education"----who are willing to try alternatives to blood transfusions?

The older I get, the more furious I am that I wasted so many frigging years...........well, they can "kiss my hairy yellow butt" [aka: Homer Simpson]----I've taken Psychology courses, Religious Studies courses and I plan on taking more. I'm considering taking Psychology of Religion, or there's another one on the Social Aspect of Religion (sound familiar?) and one on Cults & Religious Movements..........gee, I wonder why they don't want us getting a degree??

They're only hurting themselves.......the Mormons actually encourage their followers to get a good education-----in no small part because they still practice tithing and logically speaking, the more money you make, the more the church gets. By consigning so many Dubs to Cheese and Cracker status, there's less money for Witnesses to give to Mother.........but as I've said before: if the Governing Body has to choose between money and controlling the lives of 6 million people, control will win every time.

This was highlighted with the drama that everyone marveled over... how Timothy had "no regrets" of choosing the full-time ministry over college and a lucrative business career with his friend and how he was blessed.

And they know this HOW? Because they asked Timothy?
