    Hi Tom Cat,

This is the second topic I have responded to where a man is seemingly over concerned about his wife's body weight. What gives dudes? I just have to wonder what you men look like and how you take care of yourselves? In defense of new moms everywhere I have to say, I think it would be incredibly hard to lose the weight quickly, as you are trying to juggle the new baby and all of life's other responsibilities. Especially if you are not in good shape to begin with (before pregnancy).

At any rate, the diet pills are a temporary fix and in my opinion an unhealthy and totally unnecessary means of weight loss. The body has all of the components needed within itself to maintain its own healthy weight. Of course, you have to do the usual...eat right, exercise, or engage in active lifestyle, etc. Until people accept this the multi-billion dollar diet industry will remain flourishing.

Phentermine, with its effects on blood pressure, sounds way too much like that herbal supplement ephedra, for my liking. Remember that baseball player that died from taking ephedra? I believe he had a heart attack in his 30's. Its really nothing you want to mess around with. I'd suggest she get off the diet pills asap.

if she's having trouble sleeping she may need to tell her doctor to adjust her dose...or take it early in the day. if she decides to stop taking it all together...let me know, i'll email you my address for the left-overs.

    OMG. LOL

    Damselfly and Jeanniebeanz:

You both are right. I have been on my diet (I know I shouldn't say "diet" since they seem only a temporary fix to a permanent problem), and I have lost a little over 10 pounds and still am going on it. Im doing the low carb diet; I would say the Atkins diet but Im not following it exactly the way it instructs in the Akins book since I do have frozen berries for breakfast and you are suppose to add those after the induction phase; but it has taught me to be more creative on choosing and combining foods. I avoid processed food and eat more foods in their natural form and in between meals if I get hungry or need something to munch on, I keep a can of mixed nuts around but dont have too many of those (nuts, not peanuts). This has worked for me so far. Amazingly on this type of diet I am suprised how much my appetite has gone down and I dont stay hungry.

How long has it been since she had her last baby? It can be hard to lose weight after having kids....Has she had he thyroid checked, that can make it hard to lose weight if that is a problem. The best thing to do is eat healthy small portions and get out there and play with your kids.. thats what works best for me. plus I found that if I keep only healthy low-fat foods in the house I won't eat the bad stuff.....unless I spend the time to actually bake cookies or something, but with two kids in diapers that doesn't happen often.

Chrissy: I don't think he was fussing about her weight. He was concerned about the drug and other effects. It would be nice if a guy could bring up the topic without automatically being wrong.

TomCat: I would be petrified if my wife went on that stuff. I've seen the women in my family while I was growing up go from gimmick to gimmick. Eventually, she'll have to get off the drugs. Eventually the sense of self-deprivation overwhelms. More often than not, the result is more problem than solution. I have little solution to offer, other than the previously-stated activity and sensible food adjustments.

I'm glad that you aren't following the atkins plan too strictly , it is far too restrictive. The South Beach is more permissive in it's later stages but it's first stage is too restricted as well.

    Best of Luck,

It'll be a cold day in hell when it does. Seems to me a guy can't even be concerned about his wife without him being turned into some kind of monster. Happens every time.

The only way to loose weight and keep it off is:

    1. Controlling the calorie intake & portions.

    2. WEIGHT LIFTING! <------ *Many women fail to realize how important this is, muscle burns fat, even while your at rest.*

    3. Cardio for at least 35min, our heart rate must be taxed in order to achieve the maximum burn.

Fad diets and pills don't work, once she stops them she will gain it all back and then some. Any type of uppers should be taken very early in the morning otherwise they will screw with your sleep.

After my son was born I really packed it on. I couldn't stand to look at myself, so I started eating better, lifting and doing cardio, I run which works best for me. Weight loss takes time, there is no easy or quick fix. You should be supportive and encouraging but never criticize her.

Mecurious commented on the above quote by Chrissy and he has a point.

There was no mention of concern over body weight by the husband. He was concerned about his wife’s well being. I guess some women have their own agenda and will read what they want to see!

Diet and exercies are the keys. Having a workout partner is also great. Men should want their women to look good and should strive to look good for them. My lady looks good, although she put on 30 pounds (ouch) but still looks good and I encourage her to drop it by eating right and supporting her efforts to go to the gym, etc. She got it by partyin too much but it is dropping off.

It is hard to modify your body weight and easy to make excuses. I have modified my body weight successfully and it wasn't easy. Sometime I don't feel like going to the gym to lift weights, especially when my workout partner doesn't go. But I still go. I have my computer's background set to a fat couple and I know the more i flake and eat unhealthy, the more I'll look like that! To each his own.

I still lack cardio and if I did it, I'd put the Abercrombie models and Evilforce to shame!! lol Cuz then I'd be flossin the 6 pack!
