I'd stand in an open field with a big metal rod.
Really though, I've never seen a lightning storm so bad that you couldn't just stay in your house. Do they really get that bad?
Kwin
Near where I live there is hill where you can park your car and look out at the towns below...its amazing to watch the lightening strike at various points....probably not the safest place but certainly the best view...breathtaking.

how about standing next to this 35 foot beauty in my back yard
I watched a tornado dip down 1 mile from my house, got the phone and went to the closet, called my husband 200 miles away, and asked him what to do. He was of no help. So don't call him.

Zev, did you get that storm? It was heading your way..
Hubert
hubert,
yes we did. and now the humidity is down, so tommorow i can ride the motorcycle to work on national ride your bike to work day
Tornado: If you have a house with a basement, go there. If you live in a trailer, cower in the bathtub. It's the flying debris that will getcha, and the tub is the heaviest solidest thing in your home.
hey Jula, we went to the local pub one night during a thunderstorm, and we had the best time ever....the hydro went out, and we stayed until well after closing time, there were just a few people there, including the owners, and it was AWESOME....we even got free beer.........hoping for another power outage soon...they make the best home-made Italian cuisine too, just a little hole-in-the-wall kind of place.

Nice looking bike, Zev. Have fun tomorrow.
