Our Island is all on Waste Watch, we have to seperate everything and wash some stuff!

Peanut Butter Jars, Mayo bottles, Ketchup and Mustard bottles, cans, I know it's good but it can be a pain in the butt!

Do you have it in your area?

What is the point of washing something that will be covered with dirt at the land fill?

I wonder how much water, time, effort and fuel go into recycling a plastic container that costs $0.03 to make.

Else~ don't you guys recycle in Texas?

Some places they do... but I see no point, with the exception of aluminum cans. It was more efficient to recycle plastic peanut butter jars someone would be willing to pay by the pound for the stuff. The fact that they tax you to take them away tells me it is not more efficient and is in fact a waist to recycle such materials.

I have a collection of cans on my back porch but I don't know where to take them. I hear you get 5 cents a can, but that sounds like too much.

We're heavily into recycling here in Portland: cans get labels off and rinsed out, same with all glass and milk jugs and plastic bottles. Plastic bags go back to the grocery store, and pop and beer bottles get returned for refund of deposit. Actually, it's nicer not to have to smell rotting catfood cans, rotten milk jugs etc., especially during the summer. Veggie matter goes down the drain or in the compost bin. Paper and cardboard get separated, as do prescription bottles which goes back to the pharmacy for recycling.

We put out an average garbage can only once every other week in the winter, and every week in the summer, with only 1 or 2 medium sized trash bags of garbage just because it smells.

With recycling we are far more consciencious of what and how we buy based on packaging.

Considering the environmental impact on pre-sorting our garbage and the extensive recycling done in our area, I don't feel bad about the extra work at all.
