I'm going to make an assumption here and state that it appears that most, if not all of the posters who are so opposed to Hibiscus' argument, were once JW's. As one who was never a JW it is very plain to see the damage done to you by the WTS as it's philosophy continues to erode you from the inside out. I truly hurt for you ( and my loved ones who are JW's ) and I think you had better come to grips with it all before it's too late.
Not quite sure what your point is Tigerman.
And quite frankly I dont think even Hibis knows what she was talking about. I posted at least 2 explanations of the use of "X" along with -mass and -tain but to no avail, Hisbis totally ignored that and continued on with her rant. Now if you think she's sane that's on you not me nor any of the others who tried to talk to the girl with logic. But for you Tigerman to try to denigrate those of us who tried to engage Hisbis is just pure folly and tomfoolery.
And sorry it seems that the concept of letting Hisbiscuit have the last word is so far gone now.

The word 'X-mas' : Professing yourselves wise you become fools. 1. The X is not an English letter, but Greek. Then "mas" should be in greek too. 2. The "X" is the Greek letter "Chi" and is equal to a "CH" in English letters. Where does "R I S T" come in???? So you've got CHmas...Geez...What is CH???? chooo chooooo train???? 3. We make a mockery out of Christmas when we don't practice the spirit and meaning of Christmas every day. We make a mockery out of Christmas when we focus on the word and not on the meaning. We make a mockery out of Christmas when we don't care enough to know the story as printed in the Bible. When we don't care enough to pass the story on correctly. When we don't care enough to make a connection between Christ and our gift giving. When we make Santa Claus the spirit of Christmas, leaving out any connection to Christ, the true spirit of Christmas. Hibiscusfire | |

Hibiscus, you are a hypocrite! Everyone on this board has been overly nice to you and I don't understand why. I have seen others torn to shreds for much less. Why don't you go to a foreign land where "the need is greatest" and dictate your ideas. Remember, this is the land of the free, and I for one wouldn't believe one word you said if I were someone who had never heard of Jesus, God or Christmas. You are insulting everyone's intelligence on this board with the tripe you are posting. I am not afraid of the consequences of my behavior in what I believe or practice by God or anyone else--except the "manners police", and I will now celebrate Xmas instead of Christmas very heartily.

I don't celebrate CHRISTmas, I celebrate X-MAS. You see I purposely exclude Christ from my celebration because I do not believe in either Christ or the Bible and I get very offended with the whole religious concept of the holiday. I like the commercial part of the celebration and I also go to extremes to make sure that everything I do regarding this holiday does not have anything whatsoever to do with the religious side ie; I have no angels, no holy Mary and the baby in the manger scenes also no Santa Clauses (he creeps me out) and is a damn lie anyway. Oh, I was saying.....I make sure I have nothing religious in the paper I wrap my presents in, the cards I send out or the decorations I use around my house.
So you see there are two sides to the issue, your's and mine and and okay some in betweens too, we are all entitled to our own ways of celebrating or living our lives period. I surely hope this whole thread was a joke I would really hate to think that someone could be so totally narrow minded as you seem to appear Hibiscus. Really live and let live you ought to try it it's totally freeing.
mrsjones5 . . .my point is that beginning with the first or second page on this topic posters began to swarm all over Hisbiscus like a nest of hornets. She did not incite the controversy, defenders of something other than what she believed did . . .which still puzzels me. Why would people do that, if not to antogonize her or see her subject matter as something where they could voice their opposition while at the same time making extremely derogatory remarks to her person . . .and you all seem to support one another in this" feeding".
Some of you use the excuse that it was satire, all in fun, she started it, it's history, etc. I don't see it that way . . .all I see is a lot of people who are hurting because of the WTS and sometimes a scapegoat comes along and it's " attack time".
Tigerman, I respond to serious posts in a serious manner, as I did yours. They're many here who are hurting and they do tend to attack and make scapegoats out of those with such opinions as Hib's. However, that was not the reason I made my posts, and I would respond in kind to any arguentation that was going the way Hib's was, regardless of the subject. I've already posted my reasons for her posts rubbing me the wrong way, so I'll not repeat them. (I do think I had her laughing a couple of times, but I bet she wouldn't admit it :-)
At any rate, I consider myself a reasonable person, and I'm still studying various beliefs and religions. If you would like to discuss your beliefs in a reasonable manner, I will by no means make fun of you. Respect breeds respect, no? By the way, I appreciate your level-headed and calm respoonse to what you percieve as an attack on your beliefs (after the post I addressed earlier). We could all learn from that. G'night.
xmas has nothing to do with xrist or xianity.
