Some religion is!
Granted "some" is, but I was kinda swinging my comments in favour of the generalisation of "all" used in the thread title
Very few religions insist that adherents believe 100% of the stated doctrines. Thus, there is room for one to have social and religious support without giving one's mind over totally to a particular cult.
What the JWs have told us about Christendom is NOT always true. Of course, just like the JWs, there are bad apples in every barrel. But almost every church (religion) I've been to, has expressed they realize they cannot ask people to adhere/believe 100%. Rarely is there someone that believes 100% of the religion's doctrine. And if they don't, they aren't shunned for it.

Billygoat, that's what I've found to be true; it reminds me of my attendance for a couple of months at the local Unitarian Church. It was very pleasant and welcoming to all sorts of beliefs. It offered much to the attenders. I really liked it. But didn't continue for personal reasons (being an atheist, lol). But they were/are a great community of people. I may go back someday actually.
Religion is the opiate of the masses.
"Clouds scurry across the sky" seems to make more sense to me than that.
Many sincere religions do not believe that they are the only way to God. Some do, of course, but not all.
The reason why religions have been popular is becaused they've helped or solved a problem that people needed. One tribe in africa (totally forgot the name or even if it's in africa sorry) used to have a big feast after harvest because food was plenty and it spured on a sexual frenzy. Well some explorers that visited this place called out to the people that they should let go of their irrational beliefs because it's only religions and has no place in reality. Well they did and after they stopped the feast and moved it to another time, their crops totally desiminated from over growth and they had to go to their former way of life so they can stay alive. Well when christianity came about that's what it did, it helped the people in their way of life. From rallying a group of people to finally find some form of individuality with God or to gather a group of people to give them a reason to fight oppression. Christianity today, I feel, does not do much besides help people feel important in this life that does not give free importance tickets. I feel that in this day and age, we have too many other avenues that help individuals more than God-thought to go on their way of life. Back when christianity was founded, it spread like wildfire because people somewhat needed it. Now I just feel that it's more complacency and congenial.
