"vaccinate themselves to revolt", a thought I have never considered before.
Since it is obvious all religion is wrong why do so many believe?

Would you trust your eternal destiny to a guy who calls himself SeymourButts? Not I
Tetra:You give humankind too much credit. On the first hand, for thinking it has evolved enough to dispense with religion as a cultural grouping; and on the second, for thinking that it's a lower form of thinking.
Would you feel more comfortable talking about the primitive deification of aliens from another star-system?

"why are people so attracted to religions that judge as evil all but themselves"?
Not all religions are black and white like that not at all! you may have experianced that as a Jehovah's Witness as they believe that Worldy people are bad and the organisation is good and the truth, that is very much like a characteristic of a Cult.
I don't think Buddhists are evil, I don't think other church demoninations are evil.
Of cause all religions would claim to be the right religion, if a religion taught that it was all fiction and false then really it wouldn't be much of a religion.
Religion is a belief, we all have our things we believe in, if the religion was walking around calling itself false then really it is not a belief because there is nothing to believe (Ok this post is giving me a headache)

I think the thoughtful words of Seymour Butts nullify the slightly ridiculous name.

Littletoe,
Still waiting with keen expectation for your opinion on why people need religion. -

the thought of an afterlife is probably the strongest motivator for belief in any religion. reincarnation or heaven (or hell), it all means that death is not as it would logically seem, an end to consciousness. but rather just a portal. this should be commonly accepted as delusional and mad
People are often labelled as Religious and God fearing or Atheistic and cynical. These are both extreme views of our universe.
Although I don’t have a faith I keep my mind open to the possibility that the life force that inhabits us moves on at death and continues its purpose. That is not to say that we individually survive. The force of life exists and always has. For our short term on earth it dwells in us, then moves on and expresses itself in some other form of life.
A study of the natural world will show that it make no judgement and does not attempt to rule or punish. It is impartial and has only one - aim to express or manifest itself. We can see this force and intelligence at work in all living things, which are a vehicle for its expression. If the vehicle is damaged the life force leaves.
An acceptance of the possibility that we are all connected and the expression of an impartial, infinite life force is not the same as subscribing to a particular religion with the hope of reward, or believing in a judgemental God with human qualities.
Believing we are collectively responsible for our world and not expecting to be blessed or helped by a distant God, because we have chose the correct religion, would be a huge step forward. The people in New Orleans have just had a huge reality check.

tetra is right on this one.
Ask yourself,if you knew you would die and there would be it,no heaven ,no everlasting life,no 70 virgins, would you still waste your time worshiping a god even if you thought he existed?
People are like a puppy looking for some reward from its master, along with years of being told you need religion, not just god.
I believe its a crutch, and if god was out there,we wouldn't have to go thru uneeded suffering of any form.God is love my *ss.

Stopthepain and tetra, good point.
I agree, nothing is done without a motive. People may claim they act without any desire for compensation, but there is always payment, even if it is just that doing a good deed makes you feel good.
If God said there was no resurrection no one would worship him. People don't worship out of love for God and appreciation for the gift of life, but rather because they worship in expectation of the payment of everlasting life. If God said he would destroy everyone at Armageddon, including JW's, and that there is no ressurection, I would be willing to bet there would be no Jehovah's Witnesses before too long.
My family always say they dont care when Armageddon comes, they are JW's because they love God. I will ask them if they would still love God if there was no resurrection. -

LoL...One evening during a semi-drunken stupor, my brother-in-law and I were inventing book titles and their authors.
One of which was: "Under the Bleachers" by Seymour Butts (see more butts)
