Just fine, we are working ourselves into a lather because this board is cheaper than cable television and we are entertainment for defd. He does not answer questions. He baits, angers and retreats. It is my simple belief that he is in no way like this in person. This board gives him the mirrored illusion of power. It helps him believe that his testicles have descended, fully formed and are not the painfully small appendages that he daily laments and prays for the new system to correct

CHL - all I can say is that those who cannot truly defend the position they take as witnesses often do as "Mother" does. That generally involves a 'red-herring' or just plain ad-hominen attacks. Mostly that is what he does here.I am saddened by that myself. The nut falls not far from the tree.
[edited to add that I did not see your latest 'testicular' reference before I submitted my post - that is too funny a coincidence...LOL]

That is so awesome. I thought it was on purpose. Channeling "great minds"? Even so. I appreciate your response to mine.

just fine
I am not upset in the least, it is entertaining for me too. Actually to see someone who is so argumenative about something he obviously knows nothing about (what God thinks) is rather amusing.

Thank you defd for responding.
However, I want to bring out to you that the Bible does NOT say that we need to read the Bible every day. Look it up in your Bible index under the word "daily". There are 6 scriptures cited with the word daily in them. 5 of them say nothing at all about reading the Bible daily.
There is one scripture that talks about reading the Bible daily. Before I quote it I want to give a bit of background as to the events surrounding this. I am going to paraphrase here.
Paul and Silas were on a "preaching tour" and they arrived at Thessalonica where they reasoned from the scriptures. Some who listened became believers and some did not. The unbelievers started an uproar and were causing trouble.
Now to the scripture I talked about earlier:
Acts 17:10, 11
(10) Immediately by night the brothers sent both Paul and Silas out to Beroea, and these, upon arriving, went into the synagogue of the Jews.
(11) Now the latter were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with the greatest eagerness of mind, carefully examining the Scriptures daily as to whether these things were so."
(Sorry, cannot get rid of the red)
Just a little follow up before I go on. After their preaching, again some became believers and some did not. The Thessalonicans heard about this and went to Beroea and caused trouble there also. After this Timothy and Silas were then sent to Athens.
Enough of the background.
As you can see the Bible only talks about one circumstance where they read the Bible daily. They did this in their preaching work, much like JW's use their Bible's out in service. Nowhere can I find it in the Bible were you are required to read the Bible daily. Can you give me the scripture, as I must have missed it?

startingover
What exactly were the scriptures that they were reading?
As a JW I read this to mean the bible as I know it because I never botherered to think any deeper than that.

To be honest I do not know what the exact scriptures were. The Bible as we know it, as far as I know, is a compiling of many writings that the Catholic Church chose. They accepted some writings while not including others. So I have no idea if these scriptures that were being read at the time is actually part of the Bible, as we know it today.

the following is the scripture that comes to mind when we were told to read the bible daily at the meetings. (The quote is from the NWT, haven't picked up a different translation yet, though I have one or two in mind)
Psalms 1:1,2 -
"(1)Happy is the man that has not walked in the
counsel of the wicked ones,
And in the way of sinners has not stood,
And in the seat of ridiculers has not sat. (which is also relevant to this discussion)
(2)But his delight is in the law of Jehovah,
And in his law he reads
in an undertone day and night. "
Even in this scripture, it is not a command. It is an observation, not an imperative, and one that is very open to interpretation - unless someone feels he has the absolute definitions of "happy", "walked", "counsel", "wicked", "sinners", "ridiculers", "law of Jehovah", and "law", and also feels that it should all be taken very literally.
I am still waiting for an answer to the question I asked you earlier, defd. I actually asked you quite a few questions, all of which you completely ignored, but the main one, again, was this -
Defd, I want to ask you an honest question. Why do you visit this discussion board? I honestly would like to know.

Oh we all know why defd is here. Defd is here cuz he likes being naughty. No good jw in good standing (and we dont know for a fact if Defd is in good standing - he could be a spiritually weak jw posing as a jw in good standing and being here just makes him feel vastly superior to all of the "lost ones" here in this board) would be caught dead interacting with a bunch of apostates and opposers.
In my opinion defd is a fake.
Calling like I see it.

seems like a case of projection gone awry - coming here to rail on the "unbelievers" in order to quiet the uneasiness inside, and hope that it goes away. I wonder if he's actually trying to convince himself, because it should be apparent by now that he's not convincing anyone else.
