Was,
I included you with Kimberly, Scorpion, and Bigboi, accusing you of spewing vitriol. I really couldn't find anything on the same level as the others mentioned.
So when you said, " What I have seen from you, Scorpion, Kimberly and a few others is no less vitriolic," that wasn't really true of me, was it? You may read into my words emotive inflection ("subtle and insulting tone") but the fault for that lies with you, not me, your problem, not mine. What stands is farkel's vitriol. No need to infer ANY characterizations to what HE said, eh?
Btw, was I wrong in reading an "I'm sorry, teejay" in between the lines? If so, my bad.
Not exactly dispassionate, is it? "Liar" and "idiot" are not compliments where I come from.
I never said that I was 'dispassionate.' Most of us who post here are passionate at one time or another, especially when issues that might be called "volatile" are discussed. And, no, neither "liar" nor "idiot" are compliments, nor were they meant to be. What I consider worse than making the charge is that the charge is true.
I noticed you selectively took my comments out of context. I believe it was to Slayer (or was it wendy, or Francoise, or tina--they have each lied about me) who did what you did and wrongly attribute comments to me that I never made. I believe in each case I gave them an out by saying either their memory of the discussion was fuzzy or they were lying. None of these who've made false charges against me have yet to return to honorably own up to their mistaken words. I thought Francoise might, but wendy's and Slayers failure to return is not surprising, and tina is... well... tina. So, my unanswered challenge to them leads me to one conclusion: as strong as the word "liar" is, it fits, since they have done nothing to dispel my charge. To your credit, you have owned up to your mistake.
As for the "idiot" comment... you WERE selective in quoting me. I said alley cat WASN'T a complete idiot. Perhaps I was wrong, in your view? If so, I will not, cannot, argue the point. <g>
What is it you are trying to accomplish in regard to Farkel?
If nothing else, learn from all his hard work in researching the Evil Empire, i.e. show common decency to fellow posters, like the rest of us do, and when he says something that hurts someone's feelings, that he not think he's so high and mighty, but apologize. The word "hypocrite" is thrown around quite a bit here, but if I decry a certain behavior in someone else, more or less making it the focus of my life's 'work,' but mirror the behavior myself, what am I?
I also feel I should address your reference to what I have begun to think of as "the emmy debacle". As far as I am reasonably able to determine, Emmy did play the race card prematurely.
You don't have to answer this question, but what do you mean by "reasonably able to determine"? I wonder if you mean that you went back and read the dialog, word for word, or if you base your judgment of the thread on hearsay. Either way, it doesn't matter. My opinion is carved in marble and will not change.
I was very uncomfortable with the actions of both sides of that mess.
The only thing about Emmy that bothered me was that she became overly emotional. That was her only error. Virtually everything she said was true. Period.
The errors on the other side of the 'debacle,' as you call it, were more egregious, imo. Certain board members, mostly non-Americans, took issue with what she had said prior to that, but how could they reasonably do so? They couldn't, anymore than an American could comment fairly and intelligently on the status of Australian political developments to Aussies. Still, even if they disagreed, it would have been no sin. Yet, they didn't stop at benign disagreement but began throwing slurs. Kent, who was lurking (I guess), took it upon himself to start a whole new thread to further vilify her character, giving your friend the opportunity to say something truly vitriolic toward Emmy but about women everywhere. The rest is history.
I stayed out of it for a reason: I don't think any good came of it and I didn't want to get my hands dirty.
You stayed out of it for a reason which is precisely why I got into it. Evil prospers when good people do nothing.
Even though Emmy became quite the sacrificial lamb, because of that event the board was able to see very clearly and without guise exactly how many posters thought, Farkel foremost among them. It was/is also interesting to note who DIDN'T get involved (JanH and AlanF being prime examples, to their great credit, imo). It's a subtle fact among those who deal with racism: most would much rather deal with a person who is openly racist rather than one whose latent racism is concealed beneath a false front of decency and sickeningly sweet, but false, kindness. I know I would. Because of Emmy, I'm able to do that now.
I hope I have addressed your questions. I assure you, my comments are sincerely intended. I only jumped into this because my friend, Ginny, is not available to defend herself. I would hope you'd do the same for one of your friends.
I've emailed Ginny, informing 'her' that there is a thread she might want to visit. I don't see it as her having to 'defend' herself. She has nothing to 'defend.' She thinks I'm a laughingstock because I believed a lie (joke?) she told. No biggee. The thread will be available tomorrow, next week, next month. 'She' will be back.
You engaged me in dialog and for the most part you've been fair. Thank you. Your stated motive was to get to know me better. I hope you have.
Last, in parting you said, "regards and peace, I guess." I don't believe I've ever seen, here or anywhere--someone say something like that.
What did you mean? The "I guess" part? An interesting conclusion to what I thought was a friendly dialog. Oh well...
peace,
tj
ps. FYI, there ARE NO good movies this summer, spring, last fall, etc. What did you see last night?
