When I was coming in in 83, we used to have huge get togethers every weekend and many peeps would come out to the burbs from Chicago. I had my own place so lots of times we hung out there. And then we would go INTO the city and see plays and movies and shows with them. It was...I have to admit...a great year for me socially and I thank them for that. Too bad they announced to me that I had to get baptized or they wouldnt hang out with me any more. No presssure here!!

by RULES & REGULATIONS inone thing that really bothered me about the ministry school was letting a little boy around 10 years old read an outline and scripture.
he faced and addressed the audience.
he was actually teaching.

by Fatfreek ini can hardly believe the prices they're getting for pristine copies of those books they handed out to those of us with scalps populated with lice, hands and fingers encrusted with bits of jelly and dried mud.
they're getting between $100 and $200 per copy.. thanks to google images, i couldn't resist taking another peek between some of those charming colored pages as a reminder to what we were actually exposed to in trying to make us literate.. most of these look contemporary to when i went to school -- the 1940's.
one of them may go back into the 1930's.

Oh yes!!!! Dick Jane Sally Spot and Puff!! I REMEMBER that page with the hat in the tree!! I DO! I think it was daddy coming home or something. But I remember thinking that the kids' skin always looked WET. The artwork had this shiny look to their skin which made them look wet all the time LOL. Funny the stuff you remember. I was born in 54. I do love to read though...so something must have gone right :)

there was a very eloquent article to that effect written some time ago by a commentator who attempted to buttress his argument with reference to the postmodern condition and the breakdown of metanarratives in todays secular society, nay, even the come-back for enlightenment notions of truth.
in the 1970/80s there were major challenges to the watchtowers theology (great crowd in heaven) and chronology (1914) in norway, alberta canada, dublin ireland and in the newyork bethel itself: but the damage caused by those involved in the dissent was limited because knowledge was dispersed merely through personal contact and minimal use of obscure publications that seldom met the eyes of witnesses innocent of the watchtowers doctrinal and chronological vacillations in any case.

leaving - there might be more than ever JWs but how many of those are secretly living two lives with one foot out the door now because of the internet? Sure...the JWs are baptizing their own kids but the number of hours spent in service vs how many are actually baptized belies the fact that NO progress is being made there. More youth are leaving than ever before and word is spreading about their lies and deceit and nothing can stop the Tide.
I spent many years faking being IN when my mind and heart were OUT just because I knew I would lose my family. As do they all.
It will fall...it will fall.

Look...John Denver had a heart to heart in his bathroom with God (who by the way is the spitting image of my grandfather..both of them dead now) and God didnt save HIS ass when his plane went down. No respect I tell ya.
I have come to the conclusion that there is a Designer. He Designed...then he moved on. I dont think he stuck around to listen to all of us whining and deciding who should win the Superbowl. I dont think he heals this one and lets that one die. I dont think he rewards this one with a mysterious check for the EXACT amount of their mortgage and then hits Haiti with a devastating earthquake because some of them practice Voodoo.
And yes I think praying is like meditation, it slows your heart rate and calms you down and lets you vent and thats all very positive but if you then sit on your log and dont do anything to help yourself you will make your situation worse and blame God for not answering you.
You can pray to your cat. He will appear to be listening. But mostly like the Elders he is thinking about other things and feigning interest in your welfare. But you will feel better afterwards. Until he wakes you at 3am by sitting on your head until you get up and feed him.

To what degree due you think "Internet killed the "Jehovah's Witness" radio star."
by Witness 007 ini remember getting my first crapy computer for $200 bucks and clicking on the internet for the first time....i said to myself: "i may just look up my jehovah's witness brothers on here.....free minds watching the watchtower hmmm .
so the nails in my faith coffin began to be hammered in rip.
so how big an influence was the net in your leaving?.

Im pretty sure that if you killed the society in the technologically advanced countries that the rest would fall into the hole behind it because money would rapidly cease to come in and there would be nothing to support their drug habit any more.
In my case... doubts came first 1986 --> internet in 1996 -----> search of Jehovahs Witnesses -----> like 2 million HITS ------> FREEMINDS ------> Crisis of Conscience ------> Library to read same (running into POs wife on the library steps on the way out lol) ------> Extreme ANGER!!------>DA letter -------> FREEDOM!!!!!!
