I remember when we were not given an assignment of how much material was to be covered each week during the book study. The Society just told us what book we were to use and when to start using it and when we were to start the next book. Since we were often a little slow, we sometimes didn't have it all covered before we had to start a new book.

Do good works by JWs count for anything?
by greendawn inwe all know that the wts like so many other cults is an exploitative organisation that works with a great depth of deception that's not easy for many to grasp.
but will the works done by jws for this religion count in their favour if they were done in good faith?
at least the ones that didn't directly harm anyone?

I was visited by the elders when my service time dropped off to zero. I explained that besides having to work full time, the rest of my time was taken up in the care of my elderly JW mother who was wheelchair confined and suffering from severe Alzheimers. The elder kindly explained that that was all well and good, but that I should remember that there are people out in the territory who have "no hope." We need to be calling on those people. It was hard to keep from smacking that guy in the face. I should have said, "Well both my father and mother sit in their living room day after day 'hoping' that somebody from the congregation will stop by and visit."
That visit clinched my exit from the Borg.

What are you guys talking about? We never had a book study on Tuesday night. We've always had the three meetings combined. Back in 1975 there was some idle talk in newspapers about the possibility of having three meetings a week (which you cannot believe, of course, and it might have been on the Internet which you also cannot believe, of course) and some people thought that proved that Armageddon was near. We've never had a book study, it's always been a Bible study followed by studies of the Watchtower publications for about the same length of time, of course, because it is equal to the Bible and written by the same Holy Spirit. It's always been this way. This is just another example of the loving provision of the Faithful and Discreet Slave. How else will we get the "new" scrolls? - Revelation 20:12. The scrolls we have been using were supplied by Scott Paper Company.
Gotta run now--have to go the store--need more Koolaid.

Clyde thinks that there will be more pressure on family heads to have a regular family Bible study--with the idea that it will help prevent so many of the young ones from leaving.

Hey - the congregations could use the extra time to organize visitations to the nursing homes, helping the needy, and the sick. Oh that's right, we wouldn't want to do that...we don't want to imitate the churches, do we?

3 ways out
by Samuel Thorsen inif you are a jw and you want to live a real life you have a choice of 3 ways to get out of there.. 1. to get disfellowshiped.. 2. to disassosiate yourself.
(write the letter).
personally i se no reason to do anything but fade out, it's their rules not mine.

The elders have pretty much left us alone lately. The last couple of times that we met with them we were very polite and nodded and smiled. However, one of Clyde's good friends has "leaked out" that Clyde has friends in high places, implying that he has some powerful attorney friends. We haven't had a visit for about six years.

So I was thinking about the earthquake we had last week...
by TheSilence inand i was thinking about my reaction to it.
i woke up at 4:40 in the morning because the bed was shaking and the thought process in my head went along these lines, "the bed is shaking.
mike is out of town.

I thought we had earthquake insurance on our house and found out we didn't. I'm going to take care of that right away.
Clyde and I watched the History Channel a few weeks ago about what would happen if there was another earthquake similar to what happened around 1820 which threw the Mississippi River up out of it banks and changed the flow of the river. It would cause complete devastation in the midwest. Back then, there were only Indians and a few settlers in the area. Still, the vibrations were felt in Washington DC.

The Death Penalty? What do you think?
by Country Girl ini, as most persons, think a sexual assault of a child is a very horrible thing.
like most parents, i would want to put the person to death that assaulted my child in that way, but is that just?
i'm two ways about it: i feel for the child, and the child's family; but at the same time i am wondering if it is deserving of death?

Maybe if they were forced to perform some kind of productive labor, grow food, or do SOMETHING other than lay around in a prison like a societal parasite sucking up our resources.
Actually, I am for the death penalty if there is absolutely no doubt. However, the above is not a bad idea.
I remember my father telling me that he worked at a State Hospital in the 1930's. The mental patients actually had work assignments on the farm and in the orchards, picking fruit, taking care of animals, and even driving tractors (occasionally). The institution was actually self supporting. Then the do-gooders decided that these people shouldn't have to work. So instead, they just sat around and did nothing. That helped no one. Now they became an expense to the taxpayers and they lived a fruitless life. Later, when the State was making some tax cuts, they cut off some of the revenue, and many patients were released only to become homeless street persons.
So, getting back to the pedophiles, why couldn't these parasites be made to support themselves or the community in some way?

Many thanks, Fokyc. I've downloaded it. That pedophilia comment was unbelievable! You'd think they would at least keep quiet. But they continue to bash the priests. The height of hypocrisy....
