A few years ago I remember a sister who took a college class which was free because her husband was an employee of the college. It wasn't even on a meeting night. There was a local needs talk about higher education. It was just a Spanish class.

Local Needs Parts.....
by AK - Jeff ini have not set foot inside a kh for over 5 years now.
i suspect that i have been the 'subject' of the lnp's more than once.
i suppose every time someone gets a face to face with me in the local shops, and the elders hear of it, i get another dishonorable mention on thursday night.

Lots of door to door in the snow with three kids. Often we had rural territory, but one trip to the door and I would come back freezing no matter how warm I was dressed. I was always pushing for the coffee shop.

Who was the first person to become a Jehovah's Witness in your family?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inmy mom, dad, uncles, aunts, and grandparents were all raised catholic.
they were all baptised and married in the catholic church.. one day in the early 1960's,a witness preached to my uncle.
he started a bible study and later had his immediate family join in.

Well I had two great aunts who were contacted by John Bohnet in the early 1900's. One of the aunts died in 1910 and I don't know how long she was associated before she died. Of course, they were Bible students back then.
My grandmother started associating, probably around the World War I era, then two uncles in 1940, my immediate family wasn't until the mid 1950's.

He said a lot about WHAT he is going to do, but not that much on HOW. Well he did say that "Stimulis is Spending," so he will have to hit the American taxpayer pretty hard.
Clyde says we need to change our terminology. Instead of "bail out" we need to say, "Looting of the national treasury."

Trust in Jehovah in these hard economic times--but send us money
by Bonnie_Clyde inclyde has heard from two sources that a letter was read at the meeting last week.
after encouragement to trust in jehovah, they suggested that each publisher send about $5.70 to the society each month to help support the organization.
that's the way he heard it.

Well, with a million publishers in the United States alone, that would be an $5,700,000 per month in revenue--in one year, $68,400,000. Pretty good income for a company that wants their adherants to "keep it simple."
Has anyone else seen or heard this letter read at their meeting?

Were all the GB raised as JW's
by jwfacts ini do not believe the gb members are purposefully deceiptful, but rather that they too are believers due to a lifetime of indoctrination.
does anyone know if all of them were born jehovah's witnesses, or if some came in later in life?.

Usually in a High School... folding chairs in a gymnasium. We used a the little theater in a few high schools.
The high schools we seemed to use were pretty art -deco WPA era places... usually cold in the winter or no airconditioning if you did a late spring dat
We were so proud that we were following the example of the early Christians. Acts 19:9 speaks of Paul "daily giving talks in the school auditorium of Tyrannus."

I remember the 3-day circuit assemblies and the 8-day district assemblies. I loved every one of them--afer all, we had the "truth." Life was fun, I was full of energy, was rather popular, it was fun working as a volunteer, and we often got to work while the sessions were going. They weren't strict about dating back then, so often I had an (unchaperoned) date after the sessions were over. I also played the piano and often alternated with another piano player at the circuit assemblies. They got me some attention too.
I have to agree--life was simpler then. I was soooo ignorant.

Accordingly his days shall amount to a hundred and twenty years--Gen. 6:3
by Bonnie_Clyde ini was cleaning off a book shelf and saw a copy of examining the scriptures daily for 2005. was about to throw it away, but opened it, and this is what popped up for 6-11.... i remember discussing this about 5 years ago on the forum after the wt article of 12/15/03, but it still amazes me.
it's obvious that the society was hinting that the end would have to come by 2034, 120 years from 1914... "only 120 years more and jehovah would bring "the deluge of waters upon the earth to bring to ruin all flesh in which the force of life is active from under the heavens.
" (gen. 6:17) when noah was informed, he wisely used the time to prepare for survival.

This was a little sneakier though. There is no reason to give the period of the building of the ark at 120 years, then in the next sentence say that we are 90 years into what Jesus described as "days as the days of Noah were". The implication is very clear.
I agree. I wonder if the WT was trying to test the waters, to see what the reaction would be from the publishers. They have to keep the carrot out there somehow, and many us remember how we used to love date setting.
