Interesting that the first article in the 10-1-11 WT asks the question, "Have You Been Lied To?", referencing the churches. Who's lying?

The thing is when R&F writes a letter to the WT and if the letter looks like something the writing dept. see serious and can't handle they send that letter with their own letter back to the local congreation the R&F goes and the local elders look into it.
I thought this was partly because they don't want the liability of giving an answer that could cause legal problems. Let the local elders shoulder the responsibility.

Service Meeting says "Leave Everything"
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite inthis has probably been addressed, but i'm in a rush and wanted to get this out asap while it's fresh and before i have to run off again.
and i don't have the km with me to note the exact instructions and passages discussed, anyway.... last week in the service meeting, there was an unusual part that i wish i would have been prepared for.
the only material was to read a couple passages from luke and discuss how they affect our attitude toward our ministry.

Now that we have ATM machines at the assemblies, we can even go in debt to keep the WT funded.

Did you REALLY like the music played at meetings? Did people in your cong. seem to like them?
by Chemical Emotions ini couldn't stand it.
never heard any of it played live, which i imagine would be much better, but still... i find it annoying.
for people who like that type of music, i guess it was good.

I loved many of the Kingdom songs--I admit, some were not so good. I was the piano player for many years at both the Kingdom Hall and sometimes at the assemblies. I would liven them up a little bit and got lots of compliments. Never learned the words too well as I was mostly just playing music. But occasionally a song gets into my head and it's hard to get rid of it.

A friend of Clydes is an UBM of a very "spiritual" sister" an has gone with his wife for years to assemblies to keep the peace. He said he was shocked when they announced that the friends could donate by debit or credit card now. That was in Toledo, Ohio.

It didn't work for me. Had dropped calls, and when I would call the number to the home office of the company I work for, the call would actually go to one of their other locations. Apparently, it was incompatible with my Verizon wireless card.

Magic Jack for phone service? Anyone try it?
I tried it two years ago at the recommendation of a friend. It worked good for him. It didn't work for me--the reception was bad. I use a Verizon wireless card. Also the toll-free number that I use to call my company actually went to one of their branch companies. I finally gave up on it.
Just saw an info-merical yesterday about Net 10. Unlimited minutes for $50/month with no contract or hidden fees or $25/month for 750 minutes. I may look into it.

I'm sorry about the format. I was trying to make it better, but it got worse
Hello Dear friends,
Here is a tidbit from our convention here in Amarillo . This is NOT a
spoiler. The item was included in our closing talk and related to the entire
brotherhood in the US branch.
It seems the motel association here in Amarillo decided to cease giving any
breaks to our brothers coming to the annual convention which has been held
here in Amarillo for some thirty years. As a result the brotherhood was able
to schedule only one convention here this year. But their decision was made
a year ago. And it was reported to me that some motels actually raised rates
to the brothers giving no thought to possible consequences. Then last fall
the economy started to crumble and travel diminished. Empty rooms generate
no income. Add to that the fact that the reduced number of conventions
(reduced from a high of four conventions to only one this year) resulted in
fewer meals being served at local restaurants, fewer items purchased at
grocery stores and department stores (even Wal Mart) which fact results in
fewer tax dollars coming into the city when revenues are already down.
The City of Amarillo wanting to be assured that we were not planning on
leaving Amarillo sent a three man delegation of business men to Bethel to
plead the case of Amarillo . Anyway, the brotherhood welcomed them and gave
them a tour of Paterson and Brooklyn . This tour and the brotherhood's
obvious professional way of doing business so impressed these men that they
made this comment as reported in a letter from the governing body to us here
in Amarillo and partially read at our convention, this point. "We feel you
people should be placed in charge of the US government and in six months you
would have the problems, including the economy fixed."The entire 5000 plus audience were very happy to hear this assessment of our
organization and our work. And that comment from the Chamber of Commerce and
the city may open a few hearts to Jehovah.
Just as I was about to post this the local news ( KFDA channel 10) reported
the dollars spent in Amarillo by conventioneers this weekend at more than two
million. -

Thanks for finding those quotes, Blondie. I remember some of them at the time they were written and wondered if they weren't applying the "new scroll" idea to their WT articles.
