I recently started a list of posters that I don't care to read. You just made the list.

Are the Society planning a 'Pledge of Allegiance'? IT MAY BE TRUE!
by nicolaou ini've just learned from a trusted contact at thewatchtower.org 'norris', that the society intend to put a resolution to the congregations shortly - though definately not at the 'special talk' meeting next month.. here's the scary bit.
this resolution needs to be responded to by all baptized jehovah's witnesses.
we have not been able to get hold of the wording but have been informed it is intended to provide the brotherhood with the opportunity to affirm their loyalty to jehovah and his organization.

TOILET ISSUES!!
by Gill ini've just been discussing by pm with a good friend 'toilet issues' brought on by our jw experiences and upbringing.. friend has a problem with not being able to go in public toilets because of twickenham flashbacks.
i hope she doesn't mind my saying this but i think she'll understand what i'm getting at.. my problem, was i always felt so guilt stricken whenever i even needed the toilet and was in a room with other people for any reason, school, work.
this all stemed from jw upbringing where i was not allowed under any circumstances to go to the toilet during meetings as this was 'shameful' and showing 'lack of appreciation' for the non spiritual crap being served by the fcs nutters.

Just a few years ago the district overseer was complaining about people getting up during the meetings so much to go to the bathroom. He then told about how in the old days (I think it was in his youth) that they met in a rented hall with no bathroom facilities and the only way one could go to the bathroom was to leave the building and walk down the street where they could find a bathroom. His point was that hardly anyone left during the meeting to go to the bathroom, and therefore we could all hold it in if we really wanted to.

KM - Local Needs
by TheListener ini thought it would be interesting for those of us who still attend the meetings to let everyone know what our local needs part was/will be this week.
(the km allots 15 minutes to local needs at this weeks service meeting).
ours will be on meeting attendance.

I've heard many many local needs talks. Never heard one on giving assistance to the older people or to needy persons in the congregation. I wonder why they never think of that.

What to say when your asked, "How was your memorial?" or, "Did you go?"
by cab1000 inyou are fading, and dont want your friends / family from out of town to know that you no longer want to be a jw.
they may know that you are not going to all the meetings, or not.
but since the biggest deal to them has been the memorial, they expect that you went.. we did not go.

Tell them you were sick. You don't have to say what you are sick of.

An Elder Told Me.... Many To Be Disfellowshipped Soon...
by Doubtfully Yours inan elder told me the book is jehovah's latest provision to cleanse his organization.. he said soon all people that have drifted, inactives, and others baptized and not complying with the biblical mandates for a jw, will be visited and given an option to shape up or ship out.. he said that if the person refuses the help offered by the congregation they'll be notified of the date of disfellowshipping and given time to appeal the decision.. he was so happy stating that this way jehovah's organization was preparing for the final clean-up before armageddon.
he sounded so convincing that it almost made perfect sense what he was saying.
i got goose bumps listening to his reasoning.. dy

I heard a similar rumor back in about 1981. Some friends of ours were visiting, the sister's step father was a circuit overseer. They said they heard that the Society was going to get a lot more strict. I wasn't particularly aware at the time that they became more strict--largely because I was a very loyal dub at the time and I didn't see anything in our congregation. However, Ray Franz told several accounts of elders going after some very fine people who merely expressed doubts, maybe they were exceptional cases--that was shortly after the time of his own disfellowshipping about 1981. I believe that any direction to do the same now would not be in written form but verbal directions from the circuit overseers who get their verbal orders from headquarters. They have to go to any length to try to stop the flow of information. It will be interesting to see what happens. Now we have the internet to keep us abreast of current happenings.

Why the announcement change?
by jula71 ini have been thinking about why the change in the way df?d and da?d are announced, then it hit me.
i know in my area more and more are choosing to leave on their own terms (da).
i believe the "fds" are starting to see this more and more, when this happens, some "faithful" will be more prone to question, "why?

What happens if I hear that an announcement is read that So and So is no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Since they didn't say from the platform that they were DF'd or DA'd, then I should be able to talk to them because the rules are about not speaking to someone who is DF'd or DA'd. Have they ever said that I cannot speak to someone who is not one of Jehovah's Witnesses? I don't think so. Any comment?

tonights memorial
by bonnzo in.
a scripture was read during the talk i never thought of before, 1cor 11:26 which says:"for as often as you eat this loaf and drink this cup, you keep proclaiming the death of the lord, until he arrives.".
if he arrived in 1914, why do we still "eat this loaf and drink this cup"?

The speaker last night began reading from 1 Cor. chapter 11 but he came one verse short of verse 26. I was wondering how he would apply it. This year was the first time I thought about the meaning of this verse so will watch to see what they do next year (that is if I go).

Watchtower Society - The Thief of Time
by truthseeker incan't do more in jehovah's service?
start buying out time from non-essential activities.. how many times have we heard this phrase?.
ever wondered how much an average jw who preaches 10 hours a month, spends on jw activities in a year?.

Starting next year it should be easier. Only 3 magazines to read every month instead of 4. That should save about 6 hours per year.

Armageddon Should Arrive This Year.
by Englishman in1975 came and went and nothing happened.
ah...but then!
when 1975 was looking close some bright spark reminded us that god's last act of creation was when eve was given to adam, so that time delay needed to be added to 1975 before armageddon became due.
-
Bonnie_Clyde
I thought Adam was created in 4026 B.C. according to WT chronology. That's how they arrived at 1975 - counting 6,000 years would take you to 1974 but one year had to be added because there was no "zero" year.

Did JW males keep their hair long in the 70's?
by Preston ini noticed a couple of pics of the guys on jw.com that some of you kept your hair long in the 70's.
i can't picture any of you guys getting away with and still being considered "in good standing" with anything that drooped below the ears.
wtf?

Not at our hall. One of the elders tried, but my father (elder) got on his case real bad. My father also told one of the teenage boys that he could not give a talk in the ministry school if he didn't get his hair cut. So the boy got a nice cut and came to the meeting prepared to give the talk. When he walked into the hall, it had been raining and his hair was a bit rumpled, but before he could make it to the restroom to comb it, my father cornered him and told him he could not give the talk because of his hair. That was the last time that this boy ever attended.
Funny, when my father told me about his counseling the elder about the "hair over his ears," he commented, "A person can't hear with hair over his ears." I picked the hair up off my own ears, and said, "What did you say?"
