I wish that more newspapers had picked up on this especially in the United States. To my memory, the Guardian was just about the only one. Of course, to outsiders, this was a non-event. Why would it be newspaper to publicize that the Watchtwer joined the UN? Only JW's know how it was pounded into our heads for years and years and years that the UN was abominable and that any religion fraterizing with it was guilty of fornicating.

I am not an atheist or an agnostic. However, I understand why the WT has influenced many people to become such.

Yes, teachers can go ballistic. About 9 years ago a science teacher in Chelsea, Michigan, shot and killed the school superintendent, wounded the principal and another teacher.

John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.
All things were created through Him, and apart from Him not one thing was created that has been created
This scripture doesn't prove a trinity. The only place in the Bible that "Trinity" is mentioned is in the same place as "Organization" and "Governing Body."

Let's just get something straight about 1975.
by WTFBBQPWNT innobody ever said that the end was coming in 1975.. all the hype about this date that has continued all the way down through today came from a talk in the early 70's by fred franz.
in this talk, franz pointed out the significance of the 7 creative days and how they correspond with 1,000-year time intervals.. he then said, "could the end come in 1975?
there's so much wrong with jehovah's witnesses from their rigid legalism to their faux love, but let's call a spade a spade about the 1975 thing..

Our circuit overseer on two separate visits (early 70's) made this statement: "The Society was NOT wrong about 1914, and they will NOT be wrong about 1975." One of the brothers went up to him afterward the meeting and asked him exactly what the Society had said about 1975. He refused to answer.
Oh yes, Clyde and I remember all the hype. It amazed both of us how after the date came and went, the very people who were promoting it denied that they had ever believed it.

United Nations Library - The Forbiden Fruit? (kind of long)
by Lo-ru-hamah ini am in the process of writing a letter to my mothers sister (aunt) about the un/watchtower fiasco.
my aunt will not speak to my mother or father because they are d'fed (for the un/watchtower fiasco).
however, i guess she thinks that i am a weak link and she sent me a letter, basically, stating the same thing that all jw's say in defence of the watchtower.

Really enjoyed your comments and agree with you that the Society has played the role of hypocrite to a professional level. I do not think though that the UN issue has been beaten to death nearly enough. I would not mind seeing a comment on it every day for many years to come. I wish there was some way we could get it into the newspapers, but doubt that they would care. I would hope that everyone who read your comments would snail mail a copy to three or four of their favorite elders, anonymously. You would quickly find out who the men of integrity are, and they would turn in their eldership and leave this apostate organization and all its superfine leaders. Are there any men of integrity left among the elders?

Eisenhower used WT Bible when sworn into office
by Bonnie_Clyde injoel rosenburg was on tv a few minutes ago talking about eisenhower's background.
he mentioned that his father left the religion after the end of the world did not happen in 1914 and that his mother continued.
then he mentioned that when he was sworn into office, he had his hands on a bible published by jehovah's witnesses.

He mentioned that his father left the religion after the end of the world did not happen in 1914 and that his mother continued. Then he mentioned that when he was sworn into office, he had his hands on a Bible published by Jehovah's Witnesses. Since that was in 1952, and the New World Translation had only just begun to be translated (the Greek Scripturesin 1950), I wonder if it was the American Standard Version. The Watchtower had bought the printing rights to that Version.

New Scrolls in the new system

News Flash! There are no "new" scrolls. It says "scrolls will be opened." The word "new" is not there.

"You are the connection to evil." (or, my JW sisters and me)
by Fleur inwhy is it that i have known for so long what to expect of my jw relatives, and they continue to exceed my expectations for crazy-making behavior, yet still sometimes, i am blindsided by a comment so out of left field, so removed from the way that i see my world and the way that i live my life (or try to)...why does it still hurt?.
i have posted before about my sisters.
the oldest is a pioneer and elder's wife.

Sounds like you have a wonderful husband too. I really do hope that your sister can find some peace in her life--I have a cousin who reminds me of her.

I bought a couple of books that were recommended on this board. I loved "To Kill a Mockingbird" about a white southern lawyer in the 1930's who defended an innocent black man accused of rape. The story was told from the perspective of his young daughter. The other book "Catcher in the Rye" does not seem interesting at all. I've read 10 pages, and I find it rather disgusting. Has anybody else read it? Does it get better?
