A few years ago, one of the "sisters" (still a JW) showed me how she did it in less than 5 minutes. She underlined the first and last sentence of each paragraph. She said she could usually find the answer there anyway. But her real reason was to keep the hounders from counselling her.

Circuit assembly tid bit
by Iwonder17 inanother way of saying this would be...stop thinking and listen to us.
this is something that i am having a really tough time with and have spoken to the elders about several times.
it would seem to make sense that i would be able to get reasonable answers to some questions, and if not they could at least be honest and say "i don't know".

He told me that perhaps I was studying too much.
That's about what they told Clyde. They said he was spending too much time thinking.

As a JW Did you Feel " Guilted " to go to Meetings /Service if Injured /Sick ?
by flipper inmany people in the jehovah's witnesses , older ones, younger ones have been expected to pioneer, go in field service with physical disabilities and are even considered "martyrs" if they push themselves to their physical capacities beyond reasonableness .
thus many witnesses feel sick, exhausted, tired, and essentially fight depression due to high expectations to " burn out " for the wt society.
have any of you experienced this while in the witnesses ?.

I remember an experience in one of the magazines (several years ago) about a family on their way to a convention. They stopped at a lake on the way and their son went swimming - he drowned. But they didn't miss the convention. Don't remember how they worked it, as far as taking care of the body, but they had the funeral afterwards. The "brothers" and "sisters" at the convention made a big fuss over them about how wonderful it was that they put Jehovah first. Even back then, I thought that was stupid.

Ex-JWs, How Many People Have Left the WTBTS Due To Your Efforts?
by ziddina inand, while we're at it, what did you feel was the best technique/were the best techniques for 'awakening' jws to the problems/threats within the wtbts??.
i was initially awakened by the realization that the bible writers had no clue about how the earth really worked - which meant that their god had no clue, either.
when exodus 19: 16-19 was read in the kh, i realized (as a young child, 7 or 8 if i remember correctly...) that those bible verses were describing a volcanic eruption - and the isra-el-ites - and their 'god' - were totally clueless as to the true nature of that eruption and mountain.... that was my first eye-opener... then there was the fellow - a householder - who said to me when i was a cute kid at the door helping 'spread the word', "those people are using you!".

did you go on the ministry in bad weather?
by highdose ini can remember being in the freezing snow and so cold my fingers were numb, i desparatly wanted someone to invite me in, just to warm up even, but no one did.. i got soaked on countless occasions having been dropped off in some remote corner of the territory, trying to find shelter in a thunderstorm.. i got burnt to a crisp in just half an hour in a uk heatwave, of course no one was at home... they were all far more sensible and had gone to the beach!.

Yes - and I took the kids with me--three of them. We usually had a rural territory and usually did return visits--but still.

In my 20 years as a JW I only recall one woman over 35 getting married to a JW, and he was in his 70s. The rest either stayed single or found "worldly" husbands.
My divorced JW daughter remarried at age 39, the guy was 45, also a divorced JW. She is apparently happy with her husband--don't know for sure, she won't talk to me.

I thought having bridesmaids was a pagan custom. They are supposed to divert the attention of the Devil from the bride. What about the wedding ring?

I mentioned this in another column. Apparently, even the Mormons have their own silly rules. We were being visited (summertime) by 2 Mormon lads and Clyde and I sat on the front porch conversing with them. One of them asked if he could use our bathroom. I immediately opened the front door to usher him in and show him the bathroom, but he stepped back and asked that Clyde take him in because he wasn't supposed to be alone in the house with a woman.

The last congregation I attended refused to turn the money over to a neighboring congregation although the WTS pressured them to do so through the CO. Will other congregations cave into such pressure. perhaps.
Several years ago there were about 6 elders in a congregation near us who lost their position because they refused to turn money over to a neighboring congregation.
