The Jehovah's Witness Definition of the Word "Soon"
by God_Delusion inhowdy guys and gals!.
forget the word "generation", the watchtower society has completely spun another word - "soon".. how many times did you (do you) hear jehovah's witnesses tell each other "the end is coming soon"?.
i talk about this word spin in our latest article - the jehovah's witness definition of "soon" - http://www.jehovahswitnessblog.com/jehovahs-witness-beliefs/jehovahs-witness-definition-of-soon/.

Actually, Jesus spanned a space of centuries of time by the expression “immediately after,” for the things he thereafter described were not seen in the first century.
I was just thinking that "immediately after" would have to be sooner than "soon", so if "immediately after" can mean a couple of thousand years, then "soon" could be a lot longer.

The WT also has an interesting definition of "immediately." it can span several centuries.
From the 12-15-74 WT:
Jesus gave these warnings, which had an application, first, to Jerusalem with her people, and then to Christians during the centuries after Jerusalem’s destruction. Following this warning he used the expression “immediately after the tribulation of those days.” (Matt. 24:29) This expression constituted a division, timewise. What he said from this point on applied only in onesense, namely, in modern times, not to Jerusalem back there. How can this be properly said?
The first-century usage of the term translated “immediately” (Greek, euthéos) was different from our use of the English word today. The Greek expression did not necessarily mean that there was no time lapse. Dr. A. T. Robertson’s WordPicturesintheNewTestament, in explaining this fact, refers to a similar expression (though a different Greek word is used), saying: “The use of entachei [“shortly”] in Rev. 1:1 should make one pause before he decides. Here we have a prophetic panorama like that with foreshortened perspective.” Also, we might note the long lapse of time involved in the expression by the apostle Paul: “The God who gives peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly.”—Rom. 16:20.
Actually, Jesus spanned a space of centuries of time by the expression “immediately after,” for the things he thereafter described were not seen in the first century. Historical records do not show that the Roman besiegers of Jerusalem and the other “tribes of the earth” beat themselves in lamentation at any sight of the Son of man coming on clouds and with “power and great glory.”
Rather, the things Christ here foretold find their fulfillment in our time. He predicted the darkening of conditions in the world, as if the sun had gone out and the stars had fallen from heaven, there being no bright outlook ahead. These things have happened since 1914, when World War I marked a turning point in world affairs, introducing the darkest period of mankind’s history.

My Online Conversation With a Jehovah's Witness About Blood
by cofty inthe following is from the comments section of the independent article about the 22 year old jw with sickle cell anaemia who died in england last week while refusing blood.
maria makes aguest sound laconic so i don't blame you if you can't be bothered reading it all but the jw cliches and lies are all too familiar.
i'm guessing she is at the thursday meeting about now so maybe she will respond again later.. .

Jehovah's organisation have always permitted blood fractions and have always considered this as a conscience matter.
What???? I became a witness in 1956 and blood fractions were not allowed until about 1978. It was not a conscience matter up until then.

JW's aren't the only bad ones. We had a visit from two young Mormon guys. Clyde and I were sitting on the front porch. Then one of the guys asked to use the bathroom. I started to show him into the house and the way to the bathroom, but he said my husband would have to show him the way. I was three times this kid's age. Maybe he thought I was the bad one.

CONVENTION FALSE INFORMATION - STOP IT BROTHERS!
by The Searcher inwe are always urged to "make sure of all things", namely, that anything we preach or teach is verifiable and true.
especially when we are referring to the bible.. at our convention, two things which came from the platform made me cringe, especially as one of the statements came from a regular and experienced convention speaker.
first; "over a quarter of a million new brothers and sisters were baptized last year - doesn't this show love on jehovah's part that he is allowing time for such ones to get to know him".

I remember several years ago when that quote first came out. My Clyde saw through it right away. I heard him saying many times, where does it say "new scrolls?" The elders just shook their heads.

Did anyone else get somewhat offended by the term "rank and file" that the WT attorney used.
by life is to short ini was just surprised by that term being used by jim mccabe when he said "jonathan kendrick was not a leader or a pastor, he was just a rank-and-file member.".
i thought that was only an apostate term and also what a put down to us lowly members.
we are just a rank-and-file person.

After McCabe's comment, the WT can no longer state that there is no clergy/laity distinction among Jehovah's witnesses.

Clergy/laity distinction
by Bonnie_Clyde infor years the wt has bragged that there is no clery/laity distinction among jehovah's witnesses.
now this attorney refers to kendrick as just a "rank and file"--he's not a pastor or elder--like that should make a difference?.

Beware Of Satan's News Media!
by minimus ini think the organization will harp on the idea that the news media is a product of satan the devil and should never be trusted especially if the news is in any way negative of jehovah's witnesses.. with all the negative (truthful) press that will come out over this latest mult-million dollar judgment against the watchtower society, i think they will "demonize" the press more than they ever have.. what do you think?

I remember a sister saying a few years ago when Dateline came out on the JW pedophile problem, "They just did it to take attention away from the Catholic Church."
