but well... since you asked, i think the tone is a bit alarmist. Anti- anything groups turn people off. Some skeptical non-christians might be turned off by the language IMHO. I can just hear the response; "You don't know them. they're such nice people."

just wanted to add... a lot of polygamous families are supported by the welfare system. They get food stamps & govt aid. The man legally marries the first wife, but the rest of the wives are considered "single moms" when they have children, and qualify for welfare benefits. Your tax dollars hard at work. Government sposored child abuse - so much for "family values."
An interesting book on the subject is "Under the Banner of Heaven" which is about fundamentalist mormons who practice polygamy. Makes the Witnesses seem almost normal by comparison.

i'm a loonie, but it seems that i've been dealing with some pretty severe waves of depression lately.
her majesty the czarina went on prozac last month and it was working wonderfully, until suddenly last week she suddenly had a bad day, and then another, and then another... it's been a week now and we're both in the blahs.
and my one co-worker had an anxiety attack and is kind of blah now, too.. anyway, that makes three people i know of who are having a bad time.
Yes, I'm a friggin' loon and i finally forced myself to admit i have a serious substance abuse problem (again). These past few weeks i have barely left the house.
Prozac didn't agree with me. Some shrinks are too eager to prescribe that med to women, IMO. Czarina might want to switch to another medication. Playing musical chairs w. your meds can make you feel scrambled up, but if you persevere & find medication (or a pharmaceutical "cocktail" - a mix of medications, one for anxiety, one for insomnia, a prn med for agitation) that works it can be a blessed relief.
I hope the Mrs. get better. Take care both of you.

since i was raised a witness, it was only as i got older that i started to "think" about what i was teaching and believing.
but even as a young teen, i never accepted the thought that 1975 was going to be the end of the "system of things" and the beginning of the "new system".
i just didn't quite believe that.........what belief or teaching did you have a "hard time swallowing"?
That women are inferior to men, and should cover their heads when leading a book study or prayer. The MEN in charge at my congo. weren't very well-read or well-educated, and this was apparent when they spoke from the platform. Since no one would correct them, they made the same mistakes over and over again. I felt embarrassed for them even as a child, especially at the Sunday Public talk, where people brought their "worldly" relatives and friends who would giggle and mimic the speakers mistakes.

Just wanted to add... "Dr" Laura Sh*tslinger's hubby is in his 70s and has had heart surgery, so he's probably not a wildcat in the bedroom. I think she comes up with this crap because she's desperate for a stiff one. She must be very sexually dysfunctional herself .

they were the first to "report" you if they believed that you did something not up to standards.
even if you started "thinking" a certain way that might be considered "worldly", you might be talked to by 2 elders to "readjust you in a spirit of mildness.
The ones in my cong. were mostly nice guys, even when reprooving my sister for smoking. Except for that pint-sized phony who told me I was possessed for questioning the WT - he was nasty all the time. He must have had a Napoleon complex or something. . .
