What makes a true friend?
by stuckinarut2 inso the "model" presentation for this months latest awake mag is this (as found in the latest kingdom ministry):.
social networks have made it possible for people to have more so-called friends than ever before.
what would you say is the most important quality of a true friend?

How do individual JW's justify Jehovah's Old Testament orders to kill little children even babies (amalekites, canaanites)?
by Daniel1555 inin 1. samuel 15:2-3 we read jehovah's order to kill "all" amalekites.
it says "you are to put them to death, man as well as woman, child as well as infant...".
in deuteronomy 2:32-34 the israelites say about sihon.

Also, the WT doctine teaches that anyone directly killed by Jehovah or at his command...WILL NOT get a ressurection...so none of those babies will ever get raised

Ahhh...no matter how they spin it...the fact is that killing an innocent baby...who has not yet been subjected to external influences is wrong.
A child can come from an awful background (think of abandoned babies), and be raised by new "parents" and develop into an amazing person...

Worry Over Possible "Spying Elders"
by abbasgreta inthis seems to be a real worry for 'faders' on a number of threads.
the responses to ducati's first posting.
is a good example.

Yes, I agree with daringhart13.
The only "power" the elders have is the "power" we give them...or allow them to have over us!
They are only "powerful" in a small circle..."A big fish in a small bowl"...
They are as unimportant as the leader of the local scout group, or basketball coach, or supermarket manager is... In other words, they are only powerful to those who are under them in thier immediate small circle of influence!
Choose to allow yourself not to be intimidated by them...be polite, but remember that you owe them nothing...especially not any explanation for your life choices.

How many *educated* adults are being converted into the Jehovah's Witnesses nowadays?
by EdenOne inthe other day i was sitting in one of those meetings where the public talk was absolutely mind-dumbing.
by minute 5 i couldn't take it anymore paying further attention to what was being said, so my mind wandered.
i looked around to my own kh and started to notice something.

Same here...any new converts are the more vulnerable, downtrodden people from the territory...ones with a great deal of "life baggage".
The witnesses love to 'explain' this type of situation by saying that Jehovah calls the "crushed reid, the lowly, of this world, as they are truely humble"
I say, its only the gullible who fall for the "love bombing" which prevents them from seeing the really crazy doctrines!

1975 end prediction
by FL_Panthers indoes anyone have the article written by the wt saying that the end would come in 1975?.
how did people back then come to this year?
i need this information becuase i was told, this was never literally written by the wt in any publication.. thanks.

Dont be lazy panthers... follow the research handed to you.
Let me ask you also... According to the climate that exists now in JW land, how long off is the end supposed to be?
They drop comments now about "this may be our last memorial ever" etc....
If you start talking about the house you will buy in 10 years to an uber strong JW, just watch as you get slammed for not "keeping up with the chariot etc"
SO, magnify that 100 times, and you get the hype that existed back in the early 1970's

Yes, so the presentation mocked "online" friends.... which made me think of a new witness expression : "inline" friends.
The friends you have only if you are 'inline' with the GB directives!

So the "model" presentation for this months latest awake mag is this (as found in the latest kingdom ministry):
Social networks have made it possible for people to have more so-called friends than ever before. What would you say is the most important quality of a true friend? [Allow for response.] Here’s an example of the practical advice on friendship that is found in the Bible. [Read James 1:19.] This magazine outlines four guiding principles that can help us be the kind of person others would want to have as a friend.”
I couldnt help laughing when I considered that witnesses are the worst example of people who have mastered the art of 'conditional friendships'!

What's the difference between exJWs who FLOURISH and those that don't?
by Fernando inquite a few here on jwn seem to have grown and developed in leaps and bounds, sometimes beyond their wildest dreams.. others seem to still be struggling.. what do you think makes it possible to flourish?.
the degree to which our mind has been liberated from watchtower thinking?.
if so, this seems to happen in many different ways, so what is the secret?.

I believe that it depends on whether we are inherently happy positive people or not. Are we inclined to be bitter or negative?
