Refusing to become an elder

i know someone who's family is very spiritual and says that her brother only pioneers and does not want to become an elder for various reasons, probably not wanting to deal with people's problems, and also the tremendous workload they put on them.

is this considered refusing advancement by god, or just choosing your own way?

he has not been "tapped" to become one, but he merely hasn't strived to become one..

I was asked on two occasions and told i was being considered as the next Elder.

The cong here is very much a "boys club" dominated by a bully elder. So there was no way I wanted to be part of that.

I simply said "Thanks, but I feel that I can be of more support to the brothers and sisters remaining as an approachable Ministerial Servant rather than being an Elder. I dont need the stripes on my sleeve."

They took that as an attitude against them...it was all downhill from there.

I support anyone who chooses to not take on an appointment.

I think the biblical account sums it up best when Pontious Pilate supposedly said "What is Truth?"

It was meant in a rhetorical manner and not an actual question... Almost like "Whats the point?" There is no absolute Truth

Thank you so much for your wonderful insights!.

You hit the nail on the head by showing how infantilized we all were as JWs. So many of us were stunted in our real growth as humans. So many of us are years behind in normal developmental stages. Yes, we are good people, but still not as advanced as we should be.

We were always taught to play the "student role" to the Organization being our "Teacher".

It is threads like this that make this forum community so valuable!

JW Elder quits & sends 900 emails

an elder in quebec, has just quit as a jw.

he did so by emailing nearly a thousand jw’s with the explanation for why he and his family are quitting.. i have spoke to him quite a bit, interesting guy.

he’s quite the loss to wt, he’s an elder with a serious career in chemistry, a professor no less.. catch his story here, apologies if this has already been posted;.

When Invited To Attend A Judicial Meeting Ask If Your Lawyer Could Accompany You

they will come back to you and deny your request, ask them to ask the service department to get organizational procedures.

if still denied refuse to attend with out your lawyer present.

and then ask them who has fairer judicial practices satan's world or jehovah's earthly organization.. no recordings allowed, and definitely no lawyers!

Also remind them that any similar meeting that would be required in a corporate or work place, would ALWAYS have an independent person present to witness the procedings.

The "Whole World" was flooded??

so, jehovah's witnesses and many other biblical literalists think that the "whole world" was flooded during noahs day.. they take the "accounts" in genesis literally.

so that means that areas as far away as australia, russia, argentina, greenland, antarctica were all visited by noah and his family to gather animals and preach before it happened right??

they then took everything back to the middle east to board the ark...uh huh.... yet, the same expression in the bible for the "whole world" is also used in the account about the "worldwide famine" in josephs day!

Seeing convention post on Instagram

i find it funny that our watchtower today was about encouragement, which was absolutly mind numbing during the meeting the way they conduct the watchtower in my hall and beat a dead horse trying to milk points out, (everyone was half asleep and the conductor had to repeat questions to the audience multiple times lol).

but anyways, i’m seeing some post witnesses are making about the convention saying things like, i really need to get my act together and we need to make adjustments.

Celebrating a birthday for the 1st time

after almost a year of thinking and eh feeling, not sure... i decided to throw a small birthday party for my son.

this feels so strange, i have never been to a birthday party.

my husband doesn't feel comfortable with it but he decided to play along lol.

We celebrated our first birthday last year (unstuck and I have a birthday one day apart)

It was more of a celebration of the ability to celebrate if you know what I mean? Kind of a way to regain our own choice to act for ourselves rather than do what the cult told us to do.

We found that it was more about the people we had there!

So I would simply say, enjoy the day for the occasion it is! A family day to celebrate your lives and show gratitude for all you have.

Enjoy! And "Happy Birthday!"

Are we losing our way a bit at JWN?

firstly, i want to be crystal clear how grateful i am for jwn.

it's been my place of support for over seventeen years and it's the first online space i direct anyone to if they are taking steps out of the cult.

i am not bashing jwn - i love this place and appreciate the hard work and expense simon puts in to keep it going.
