New Shunned VIDcast #3 - Comparing Ourselves To Others
by dubstepped injust released a new vidcast on the youtubes for "shunned" about comparing ourselves to others.
you have to at least watch the first 30 seconds for my sweet sweet new theme music.. in this vidcast i drop a sweet new theme song, followed by a serious discussion of how we view ourselves and our stories after leaving the cult of jehovah's witnesses.
comparison isn't typically healthy, and i discuss how it goes awry and how we can help give proper weight to our experiences.. subscribe to my podcast here, on itunes, google play, your podcast app of choice, and/or visit my site at http://shunnedpodcast.com for more information.. https://youtu.be/qo0n69vme-o.

Field Ministry is like 1980 Milk Carton Missing Child
by LevelThePlayingField inimagine going to the door today and showing the householder a milk carton from 1980 with a missing child on it and asking, "have you ever seen this child?
" the householder looks and quickly says, "no i haven't, sorry.".
then the next door, same thing.

"We're involved in a life saving work"?
by eyeuse2badub inas my wife left for fs this morning (aka gossip and coffee time with her friends) she mentioned to me that one of the parts in the clam meeting this week was:.
to remind the 'faithful' that, "we are involved in a life saving work!".
so i just calmly mentioned to her that if he really wanted to, jehoober could save thousands of lives every day just by controlling the weather or providing just clean water or just a just a few loaves and fishes!.

Great show! "You can't ask that! Former cult members"
by stuckinarut2 inthis is a great episode of a very candid and well produced australian tv show called "you can't ask that".
this episode focuses on cults.
while it doesn't speak about jws, we will relate to many points it raises.. http://iview.abc.net.au/programs/you-cant-ask-that/le1717h003s00.

Weird love letter in the summer convention
by purrpurr inin this summer's convention theres a video showing the tale of a rather geeky plain looking brother whose relating the tale of how the prettiest girl in the whole school fancied him (!
) and sent him a love letter, the letter is read and it says .
"i think we would get along,i'm attracted to you, i like your personality, and that's not all, i think we could have fun together.

I found that scene incredibly DEMEANING to women!
It was offensive, because the girl expressed her wholesome interest in him. She was not crass or 'immoral'
Then the whole point of the video was "don't worry if you miss out on THAT women, you can get a DIFFERENT better one anyway."
Its basically saying "the woman is just an asset or commodity you can get." Similar to , "oh, if you miss out on that car, just buy a different one"

Just asked JW wife to quit
by rathernotsay inso i wont get into why i asked my jw wife to leave... theres another thread for that lol... but more out of pure curiosity i asked her just now... "in order to save this marriage would you leave the jws?
", it was a snap call no, like not even a second to pause and think about it, which kinda took me back a bit, followed by a angry "why would you ask me that now?
" (shes going out witnessing with my kids and her friends).

Sorry to hear that you guys have such tensions in the relationship. That is never pleasant -regardless of the reason.
I wish you well.
If the topic comes up, try to spin it the other way. Ask her something like "what efforts would you put in to strengthen or build our marriage?. What would you be willing to sacrifice to draw closer together?"

The JW take on Black lives matter at the summer convention
by purrpurr inanother "gem" from the convention.
there's a talk about remaining neutral.
one of the topics they say jw's should avoid is the topic of "peoples lives matter" which is barely veiled code for black lives matter.

I wonder how quiet they would be if they were "persecuted"?
#jwlivesmatter
Or if the GB were sexually abused?

Invited to a talk: What to do?
by Fred Franztone inmy sister texted me last night with an invitation to watch our dad give his first ever public talk.
i don't live particularly near to my family, but i'm not too far from them to make the journey, and i am on good terms with them, having never been baptised and so not disfellowshipped; they don't shun me and likely wouldn't even if i were disfellowshipped, it's not in their character.. i haven't been inside a kingdom hall since 2006, and i would like to keep it that way; i only intend to step inside one again in the event of a family wedding or funeral service.
i don't want to be rude to my sister, ignoring the text isn't an option, so i need a diplomatic way of declining her invitation.. i've considered saying that i'm busy, but this leaves things open for her to ask again in the future, and i'd rather she got the message that i'm not interested, without me having to say so in an explicit way.. any suggestions from those who have been in a similar situation?.

Sarcasm alert:
"Thanks, that sounds great. If you could also join me when I attend the next "Sceptics and Atheists" convention in the next few months, that would be wonderful"
