I just finished "The Time Travelers Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger. The story follows the adventures of a man afflicted with a genetic disorder which causes him to spontaneously transport to another time and location, and about the woman he eventually marries. Unable to control his affliction, he vanishes into the past or future at inappropriate times, remains gone for moments, hours or days, and eventually returns. At times, his voyage lands him in very difficult circumstances, other times it seems more mundane. The story is not so much about the science-fiction mechanics of how this works, but more about the romance, developing over decades, between himself, and his wife (who he first meets on one of his journeys into the past, then years later meets her "in real time"), and how she deals with his repeated absences. The story is set in and around Chicago, during times ranging from the 1960's through the middle of the 21st century. Quite interesting, and made my heart kind of fill up at times.

Is Armaggeddon/Rapture only a "myth" that is not going to happen?
by booker-t inas most of us ex-jws/jws have heard for years "armaggeddon is around the corner" and many born-agains/ex-bacs have heard for many years as well "the rapture is on its way".
i am personally sick to death of waiting for something that might just be a "myth" or dream that we got hooked into believing.
any thought about this posters were we all "duped" into believing a "fantasy"?

Jesus was supposed to return during the lifetimes of the original generation of believers. Thats not the way it turned out.

Serious lie - would you dump Him or Her?
by pratt1 ina recent post about whether you could stay with someone who lied about being transgendered remindered me of a situation that occurred in my family back in the early 60's.. my father's uncle went off to college cut off all contact with his family in the 1930's.. fast forward to the 60's, my dad and his brother were contacted by a woman (white) who said that their uncle (her husband) wanted to see them immediately because he was dying of a terminal disease.. imagine my dad's and uncle's reaction when they realized that their uncle had been living the past 30 years as a white man.
after college this blue eyed, blonde haired man changed his name, went into the navy and changed his identy to a italian man.
he than married and adopted 3 children.

Not automatically, there could be a good reason for deception, and it could be that no one was harmed anyway. But if the intent was to "get away" with something hurtful or even morally wrong, then probably dumping would take place.

Dan Brown DID NOT write "The Da Vinci Code"! [ VICTORY FOR CHRISTIANS !!! ]

I saw a PBS special on "The DaVinci Code", which made a pretty good case that Mary Magdelene could actually be one of the figures in "The Last Supper". Perhaps Leonardo had access to some ancient manuscripts which hinted at some of the things suggested by the Dead Sea Scrolls, the Gospel of Judas, and other discoveries of more recent decades, namely, that early Christians used documents other than the books which came to be included in the Bible, and believed very differently from what "conventional" Christianity came to believe. I'm not sure what "Victory for Christians" would constitute, but perhaps claiming victory is premature, as the book is already a monumental bestseller, and the film has not even opened yet. I expect that the movie is also going to be hugely successful, and lead many people to question things which they have up till now simply accepted. I also expect that many "Christians" will slander the movie without even having seen it, just as they already slander the book without having read it. What is the value of a book review or a movie review from such a person? Zero? Less than zero? It kind of makes me think "Hmmm, what are they trying to hide?" I will certainly see the film when it comes out.

FLUFF: Tell us your favorite weird movie, and...
by GentlyFeral inall right, now that we're talking about movies again, let's turn each other on to some of these:the best movie you thought you'd hatemine are: perfect blue my first exposure to intelligent anime.
come to think of it, this is definitely a "best weird movie," too.fight club i'd been avoiding it for years because of the violence.the truman show i mean, jim carrey's mugging plus cliched preachments.
well, that's what it could have been.basquiat a depressing ending to a story of mixed accomplishment and really bad judgement, complicated by mental illness but the scene where he hallucinates a work of art he has just designed, and smiles it explains so much.

My favorite "weird" movie lately has been "The Big Empty", with Jon Favreau, Joey Lauren Adams, Daryl Hannah, Rachel Leigh Cook, Kelsey Grammer, and Sean Bean. Its about a struggling actor who works as a delivery driver. He accepts a job to deliver a locked suitcase to a small town out in the desert, where he misses his delivery appointment, and lots of strange things begin to happen. Many big names playing many memorable characters. Favorite movie I thought I would hate was "Pirates of the Caribbean", which didn't suck nearly as much as I expected : )

Did your KH have a minimum skirt length, max heel height,
by White Waves inor other stupid rules for women?
ours were contingent on the spirituality of the sister and, if she was married or an elder's wife, etc.
then, she got more leeway.

In warm weather, I would often wear sundresses an inch or so above the knee, with Dr. Scholls sandals. This would generate lots of stares, some of resentment or envy. In cooler weather, the sundress would be replaced by a skirt and t-shirt with a sweater, with Doc Martens which came up to the middle of my calves. I was eventually told by the TMS overseer that I couldn't participate in the Theocratic Ministry School dressed that way, and I said "very well, I will abide by your decision".

High School Prom
by Larry ingreetings folks - it's been a while since i posted anything.
the other day i was talking to my daughter about her prom - dress, limo, etc....and it dawned on me that i never went to my prom.
obviously being a jdub was a big reason why i didn't go or had any desire to go.

I was still studying, and the individual who was studying with me discouraged me from going. "Who are you going to go with, some worldly person?" So, I didn't go. Then I found out that this same person WENT to the prom, with another witness. So, more hypocrisy, I suppose.

I went to MI3, even though Tom Cruise is annoying and I liked it!

I've enjoyed some films with Tom Cruise, such as Minority Report, War of the Worlds, Rainman and others, even though I disagree with his belief system, and found his tone in his "Today" interview to be rather defensive. Oddly, I've not yet seen either of the previous M.I. films, but not because of any issue with Tom, just wasn't strongly interested in the films, because I wasn't very familiar with the television show upon which they were based. Perhaps I will eventually see them...
