Give credit where credit is due, Gene Roddenberry did not conceive teleportation. Teleporters were featured prominently in the Warner Bros. cartoon *Duck Dodgers in the 24 1/2 Century", circa 1952, as a large glass sphere into which Daffy and Porky stepped, vanished, and reappeared in another sphere located at their destination. Even earlier, the series of "Mars" novels by Edgar Rice Burroughs involved the adventures of John Carter, an Earthman, who teleported himself to the red planet by simply wishing very, very, hard. Still, I am encouraged to learn of this development, and hope it becomes widespread. Vehicular transportation has kind of reached a saturation point, and I see teleportation as a solution to all kinds of urban problems.

Were you or someone you know sexually molested by a Jehovah's Witness ?
by flipper indue to the fact there are about 27,000 members of this religion that are known pedophiles, and the information about it is kept in a secret database file, i wonder how many lurking jw's as well as others are aware of the severity of this problem?
remember, it's 27,000 pedophiles that they know about.
what about the thousands that don't get caught?

I was not, but I do know someone else who was. The guilty party is still a member in good standing, and the victim has disassociated themselves.

Paisley Ties Are Satanic, Sandals Are Immodest. What is Worldly????
by mtsgrad in20 years ago (in my teens!
) there was a well established rumour that the paisley pattern had demonic origins.
no brothers in my hall wore ties with that pattern, until a watchtower had a brother wearing a tie with this pattern.. a co said that sisters feet should not seen at the meetings for the sake of decency.

I've heard some JW's and not a few other fundamentalists claim that a girl is "no longer a virgin" if she uses tampons. No kidding!

I'm a fan of memory foam, although not "name brand". Seems to work well for me.

I was recently speaking to a man, he told me he had two jobs, one as a locomotive mechanic, the other job was his own business cleaning offices and windows. I immediately thought "this guy is a JW", and it turned out, he was.

Were You Taught Evolution in School? Comparative Religion?
by bavman inwhere you went to school, that is secondary and high school.

I wasn't taught evolution in grade school, biology was more of a "descriptive" class instead of "how did this creature come to exist". I came to know about evolution from reading books about fossils, dinosaurs, etc, even at an early age (i.e. before I was 10) evolution made more sense than bible stories. I did attend some classes on "Historical Geology" and "Paleontology" in college, and even taught some similar classes. Amazingly, even at the college level, some students absolutely refuse to even look at the evidence supporting evolution.

Anyone know where to find a site for newspaper frontpage for date of birth?
by Alana inwell, one of the ladies in my office is turning 60 this week and we are having a surprise party for her and am putting together a wall of all kinds of pictures, trivia, fashion, facts, etc., from 1947. i found once a newspaper archive where you could put in your date of birth and get the front page for that day in a picture or .pdf file format.
i thought that was cool....and it was free.
i know i used to the site bookmarked.

Sometimes the catalogs "Wireless" or "Signals" offer such newspapers, perhaps their online websites offer the same things?

Carniverous animals... SHOULD they eat grass?
by LtCmd.Lore in(isaiah 11:7) .
.and the cow and the bear themselves will feed; together their young ones will lie down.
and even the lion will eat straw just like the bull.

A food chain will simply collapse if there are no carnivorous animals to keep the vegetarian animals in check. In the absense of carnivorous predators, vegetarians multiply until they outstrip the ability of the environment to feed them, resulting in an overgrazed wasteland with no vegetation left to stop erosion, and eventually the environment will not support any type of creature.

What do I do with the mouse now??
by Bumble Bee ini'm sitting here, typing with my left hand, because asleep in my right hand is a little mouse!
found the poor thing in the driveway, it almost looked like it had a stroke, it seemed to be dragging it's left side, flopping around trying to move towards the grass.
i didn't want the dogs to get it, so went and got my gloves, and scooped the poor thing up.

I hope the mouse gets better. You'll have a very good feeling if it recovers and you can release it in your yard (not necessarily next to your house). I once found a small sparrow hopping around on the sidewalk after a cold snap in Chicago. It was chirping and active, but not able to fly. I picked it up and put it in a box with some shredded paper towels, along with some bread and a saucer of water. I put the box on my desk, and it went to sleep under the paper towels. After a couple of hours, it woke up, ate some bread and sipped some water, and slowly warmed up. Eventually, it started chirping loudly, so I took the box outside, removed the lid, and it flew away, apparantly all right. I felt absolutely wonderful.

I didn't keep track, but certainly didn't tithe. My thoughts were that, since I "contributed" for the magaizines in an amount which I felt was a tidy profit for the WTBTS, I didn't need to make much in the way of other contributions. I'm sure that I never even accumulated $100 in non-magazine contributions, probably (hopefully) much less than that.
