When you say that your friends are also "still in", you should realize that as soon as you are no longer "in" yourself, most if not all of those people will no longer be your friends. Interested to hear how the talk turns out, though.

Thinking like a Jehovah's Witness would think
by The wanderer in<!-- .style1 {font-size: 14px} .style2 {font-family: arial, sans-serif} .style3 {font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; } .style4 {color: #a2554d} .style5 {color: #0084bc} .style6 {font-family: arial, sans-serif; color: #aa5c52; } .style7 { color: #0084bc; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; } .style9 {font-weight: bold} --> thinking like a jehovah's witness would think on a prior discussion thread a couple of individuals pointed out.
to me, that i am more or less infected with "witness" think.
other words, i still think like a jehovah's witness.

One thing to do, perhaps the very first thing, is to stop viewing everything in terms of black-and-white, good-or-bad, right-or-wrong. That isn't how the world works, regardless of what WTBTS tries to make people think.

the da vinci code
by Sam87 inok i havnt seen the movie or read the book yet but im going to watch it tonight, i was having a discussion with my girlfriends sister about the movie, and she is under the impression that some of it is real, for example jesus getting married and having offspring.. from what i can gather she is coming to this conclusion because da vinci painted a picture of the last supper and it has hidden messages in it.
but she seems to beleive its true?!
what does one persons paintings have to do with whether jesus was married?

I recommend seeing the movie first, and if you like it, read the book to fill in the details. There was a lot in both which MIGHT be true, each viewer or reader has to decide for themselves how much they can accept. If you look up the title on Amazon, you'll find many reviews by people who have seen the film and read the book, which may offer some additional insight about what features people liked and disliked about the film and book. I saw the film and read the book, and enjoyed both. As one reviewer noted, even if you don't believe them to be factual, they are still entertaining, in the same way that "Raiders of the Lost Ark" and "Star Wars" are entertaining, or for a closer analogy, in the same way that "National Treasure" is entertaining.

Have you ever had an encounter with a UFO?
by free2beme inwhen i was about 16 years old, a group of us friends would go hiking a lot on the weekend.
we would rough it to some degree, just a sleeping back and sleeping under the stars.
one night, while hiking into a lake in northern california, we all were sleeping in a clearing just out of legal distance from a small mountain lake we liked to fish in.

There are things that happen which are not yet explained by science. I've not seen a UFO, but have seen the "Marfa Lights", in distant west Texas. They come out at night and drift across the desert, winking on and off. Reported for over 100 years, and possibly known to the native Americans before then. I wanted to get out of the car and hike to get a closer view, but my companion was afraid to go, and more afraid for me to leave her alone in the car.

Abortion=Murder?
by ThomasCovenant ini recently heard through my still attending bro in law that a young couple had recently confessed to having an abortion.
they were not disfellowshipped.
now if abortion equals murder then this was a case of premeditated murder of an unborn foetus.

Equating abortion to murder is like equating a miscarriage to "manslaughter".

I loaned my JW neice a substantial sum to help cover some debts, she swore she would repay "with interest", sadly she broke her promise and defaulted, with no explanation.

Its about time more people recognized the musical genius of Weird Al. Much more than someone who simply changes the words to popular songs, roughly half of each album is completely original material, and as funny (if not more so) than his famous parodies. Songs such as: "Nature Trail To Hell" "Slime Creatures From Outer Space" "One More Minute" "Franks 2000" TV" "Melanie" "Everything You Know Is Wrong" "Stuck In A Closet With Vanna White" "Young Dumb and Ugly" "Trigger Happy" "Albeqerque" "Generic Blues" and many other original tunes prove that Al is the most talented musician of the late 20th/early 21st century!

Could a JW be disfellowshipped for lack of "Faith"?
by JH inlets say that a jw tells an elder that he prays and nothing happens.
then he tells the elder, that after praying so often and asking for reasonable things, i don't believe anymore that god answers prayers, because i was honest in my prayer and god didn't grant me what i wanted.
i was just wondering if an elder could see this as "lack of faith", which then could be a good reason to disfellowship someone.. .

Before I faded, I was counseled for lack of hours in field service. I explained that the desire to go door to door "just wasn't in me anymore". Shortly, one of the parts on the service meeting had an elder reading a verse in which the writer prayed "MAKE me do your will" (apparantly even when the petitioner didn't want to). However I was not disfellowshipped for my "spiritual weakness" It would be interesting to express "lack of faith" as an inability to personally accept one of the WTBTS teachings (without "misleading others") and see what would happen..."Yes Bro. Concerned Elder, I know what the Society teaches us, and of course, I don't want to stumble anyone else, but I went to the museum, read some books, and I simply can't stop thinking that Evolution just makes more sense." (or whatever else might be different from WTBTS doctrine).
