Why do people who believe abortion is wrong want to impose that on other people? If you don’t believe in them, don’t get one. None of them were losing sleep over abortions happening. None of them had a moment in their life impacted by an abortion happening. The whole argument that is being championed that it leaves it up to the individual states is hogwash. The people saying this KNOW and HOPE it is the first step to getting it banned in every state.

Roe vs Wade Overturned by US Supreme Court!
by Simon ini know there was a leak a few weeks back, but this really does seem to have come out of the blue.. the anomaly was the original decision.
it clearly had no basis in law or the constitution, and was a flimsy, ridiculous ruling.
plus the whole thing was based on a fraudulent case in the first place.. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-61928898.

“This generation will by no means pass away.”
by Fisherman infor argument sake let’s assume that this verse should apply to 1914. what are your thoughts on generation?.

I don't believe that this generations applies to 1914 at all. I once did of course like many here, but then I decided to learn why we witnesses kept saying how close the end was and it never was. I do anticipate that the Watchtower will change the significance of 1914 some day in the future and make it the "beginning of the pangs of distress". That way the "last days" could be moved again and be a future time.

Are You Concerned About Inflation?
by Simon ini saw a statistic the other day that something like 25% of all the debt that the us has incurred since 1776 was created in the last 12 months.
that's because they have printed so much currency and instead of letting that stop them, they are going to continue printing more to go on a spending spree on crazy green-new-deal schemes and union handouts.. does anyone think that this can be anything other than inflationary?
they are effectively stealing the wealth of everyone to then hand money out to people.

@Simon you stated the only solution was a default, war or both. What does a war do for the economic problems we have? Genuine question, I don't understand how that helps.

What changes are on the way?
by insearchoftruth ini was listening to the co talk to my wife’s congregation on sunday and pretty much the complete talk was justifying doctrinal and organizational changes and pretty much preparing the ‘rank and file’ for upcoming changes.

@scholar
I think most people here know your belief when it comes to 607. I am curious as to what you would do IF the governing body ever did change their stance on 607 to 586/587. How would you react to something like that? I don't think they will, but curious how you would navigate that doctrinal shift.

A group of 136 countries set a minimum global tax rate of 15% for big corporations
by Disillusioned JW ina group of 136 countries set a minimum global tax rate of 15% for big corporations.
that is a major goal accomplished by the biden administration.
seehttps://www.wsj.com/articles/countries-agree-to-global-deal-to-curb-tax-avoidance-11633709979 .. if corresponding legislation gets passed into law in the usa it will be much harder for corporations doing business in the usa to move their operations out of the usa to avoid paying their fair share of taxes.

@hoser
That was more tongue in cheek than anything. I’ve been yelling to people around me that we are going to cause inflation by our Covid response in the US while they were so happy to get a stimulus check. No one cares then. It’s happening now and will continue to get worse. We have zero interest in eliminating our government debt because no one wants the austerity measures to do it. A long slow decline for all fiat currency.

Why do we act like Taxing big corporations and the rich are the fix to our economic problems? We create money out of thin air all of the time. We have a debt ceiling fight so that the government can create more money out of thin air when it reaches the limit. We raise the debt ceiling because the government will never try to pay down the debt. Why pay taxes at all. We should just keep creating money out of thin air to pay for everything until the whole System fails since that’s where we are headed anyway.

Does this look like the WT is going to be around a long time? One Watchtower @ One Awake for the public in 2022
by pistolpete ini keep hearing that the watchtower org is going to be around forever because of the many other religions that have been around a long time.
but i disagree because the wt is not like other religious cults.. the watchtower's breath of life is dependent on the last days that started in 1914. .
you can’t change 1914 without a death blow to the entire organization.. the watchtower's 2nd reason for staying alive, is it's continual urging that the life saving preaching work of warning people is the most important work ever.. but- it's very obvious to many, even the old ones that instead of speeding up the work------the work is slowing down to a drip.. comment by former believer; .

I personally don’t think they will have any problems reshuffling 1914 and the last days. It will wake some people up sure, but for the most part people will get excited over the changes and become more zealous as the “light gets brighter.” I can fix 1914, the last days, and the generation teaching for them all in one watchtower study. They can keep 1914 as still prophetic in the Bible so it ties into 1919. Here’s how....
The first Change will be in Matt 24:3 where Jesus is asked about the sign of his presence and the conclusion of this system of things. They can establish that the signs are two separate time frames. The Presence has its own signs, and the conclusion has its own signs.
Matthew 24:4-14 would apply to signs of Jesus presence with an emphasis on verse 8 where it says all these things are beginnings of pangs of distress.
The next paragraph in the watchtower study would say, previously Jehovah's witnesses believed that all of these signs were of the last days. Evidently, Jesus meant that these previous signs were beginnings of pangs of distress with signs for that specific event beginning in 1914. (Doing it this ways allows them to keep 1914 significant so that 1919 can be tied to it)
Matthew 24:15 and on would be the signs of the last days, beginning with the disgusting things standing in a holy place. They could even say that Matthew doesn't mention the word "days" until verse 19. Clearly indicating that this part of the chapter is meant to be a short period of time.
The next paragraph in the watchtower study would say that evidently the last days do not begin until the disgusting things stands in a holy place. A future event, which would coincide with the beginning of the great tribulation. This would indicate that the last days are a short period of time. By reading all of these signs we see that the only signs left are those that indicate the last days. Therefore, we know we are very close to the conclusion of this system of things.
Moving on to the generation teaching. Matthew 24:34 indicates that the generation that sees all of those signs would not pass away. Evidently this is a future generation that has to see all signs described in Matthew 24. Previously Jehovah's Witnessess while being sincere in their desire to understand scripture have incorrectly tried to interpret this prophecy. Through the light getting brighter we now have a better understanding of this prophecy as it is described in the scriptures.
And just like that, everyone would smile and nod and say it didn’t make sense the last days were so long. They would be so glad the governing body gave them a more accurate understanding.

What does the Watchtower Society's History of Prophetic Speculation Prove?
by Vanderhoven7 inquestion: what does the watchtower society's history of prophetic speculation prove?.
how would you respond to this answer provided by paul coom... yesterday on quora?.
"our organization has never been a prophetic speculator.
-
sloppyjoe2
My response would be then what is the point in trying to understand any prophecy? If you can’t understand them until AFTER they are fulfilled they provide no value at all. We believe the generation that was alive in 1914 won’t die before the great tribulation. Ah whoops let’s change that to something else. So what was the point of having the original understanding for decades? All this response of the apologist really means is, stick to the organization regardless if they’re right or wrong. We will keep changing and call it better bible understanding as it suits the organizations needs. The ONLY belief among witnesses that cannot change is that the GB are Gods channel and the watchtower is his organization. Everything else can be subject to change.
