"If anyone calls himself a BROTHER ,"...................
by gumby in5:9-11, says that anyone who .....calls himself a brother and is a fornicator, idolater, drunkard and such, is not to be greeted or have a meal shared with them.
the witnesses of course, apply this to anyone who calls themselves a witness, and is any of those things, yet still calls themselves a witness.. the problem i always had understanding is......if a person does not call himself a "brother" ( a witness) any longer, then how do they justify applying it to those who choose not to be recognised as such any longer?
in the niv footnote section which gives a short commentary on scriptures.....it plainly says this applies to any who call themselves christians, and do these things.

Armageddon -- truth or fiction?
by robhic ini happened to see something on the history channel the other night and, as i was half-listening, i thought the comments were made that the word/name "armageddon" doesn't actually appear in the bible.
i did a quick search thru my electronic "e-sword" bible program and couldn't find any mention of the name in any versions.
the history channel show said amageddon was a reference to the place where all of the armies are going to meet up to throw down in the final conflict that is called armageddon.

rev 16:16 good news edition says armagedom (rather than the nwt har-magedon)

I have been a member of 4 different congregations over the last 16 years. I know that a lot are suffering with verying forms of mental illness.
I n each cong I was in there was on avevage 4 or 5 with serious problems. bad enough for hospitalization at times.
I suppose the great amount of pressure put on witnesses from the socitiey takes it toll.

I have just read through 4 pages to see if anyone eventually answered the original question!
We visited my very active J.W. inlaws in wales last weekend. and they told us about the big C.O. thing.
I too was very interested in what they could possibly discuss for 8 weeks. shame no one seems to know anything about it.

EX-JW's Fated To Quarrel.
by Englishman init's almost 32 years since i left the jw religion.
a bunch of us left around the same time, some were df'd, some weren't, one or two went back into the witnesses over the years.. one of the df'd one's became re-instated and last year i had the pleasure of sending him the letter that we sent to every congregation in the uk, the letter that announced that the wt was an ngo and, incidentally, the whole shebang was full of paedophiles and you lot were going to be on telly nexy week in bbc's panorama!
i digress... anyway, one thing quickly became very clear to those of us that were left.

Very interesting post Englishman.
I agree totally with your thoughts about people not maturing in the "truth". We all need to go though a prossess of growing up when we leave no matter how old we are.
Then again, unlike when we are "in" we don't have to like everybody. so there will be some we do not get along with no matter how long we are out.
Interesting thought Englishman.

I Only Get To Say This Once Every Other Year So....
by cypher50 init is snowing in atlanta, georgia!
i grew up in new york (a few miles from wallkill) and snow is actually something i miss....i used to love sitting back inside a warm house and watching everything turn white.
well, now it is really coming down here; i thought it was just a flurry because of the huge flakes but it has been going on for an hour now.

it is snowing here too!
The kids couldn't go to school this morning as we get snowed in. We are in a tiny Devonshire village. All cut off from the rest of the world. very cosy!

THEY'RE CALLING MY BOSS!!
by new light ini've been using the walk away, avoid elder contact play for a couple of months now.
my boss (an ms in a different cong.
) leaves me a message saying that the elders from my hall called him at his meeting last night.

They've overstepped the bounds of concern and now the whole thing stinks of a dirt-finding, evidence-gathering committee fest.
This is where I have a problem.
If they are genuine though misguided, you can maintaine a degree of respect. What do they want to gain from hounding people down?
There seems to be no balance. They either behave as you descibe, or don't bother with you untill memorial time then tell you how much you mean to them!

Does it ever get easier?
by Surfacing inmy heart is palpitating even as i write this.
it was only recently that i was introduced to this site.
i had long had doubts but could never bring myself to peer over the wall built in my head about the evils of apostates.

Hi surfacing
I am glad you found this forum; it is a great place to try to work out your thoughts and feelings, and to get support from people who really understand what you are going through.
Others have already given some great advice. All I can add is that as you rightly said, this place is not full of evil people trying to turn you away from God! I remember feeling very uncomfortable looking at "apostate" sites I thought Jehovah would be so disappointed with me! But it does get easier. You need to be true to yourself.
Your wife sounds like a great girl! She has stuck by you and stood up for what she feels is right. How does she feel about you coming on here? Does she know?
The way you have been treated is heart breaking. You should have had support after your dad died (very sorry for your loss btw) using your grief as a threat (if you want to see you dad again?) is disgusting.
I do not understand where the elder?s get off saying you can?t sit next to someone in the kingdom hall!! How pathetic!
As for saying your panic attacks are the demons? that is terrible! It is a genuine medical condition. Making you feel guilty is hardly going to help matters and would totally freak me out!
I wish you all the best and hope things work out for you. Stick around and let us know how you are getting on Pudd
