I think he knew exactly what reaction he was going to get, and he got it. He knew other's opinions are not welcome.

DCMSHIRLEY: Great points. He was in a public area, he was not engaging other people but was talking to his camera.

I also agree about the hypocrisy aspect. I Jws fought for the right to express themselves.

I think the main initial objection was to the camera.

I know where I work we are sensitive to people taking pictures and videos because of safety and privacy issues. I work in a public place but we have a posted rules if conduct.

I would not like someone videoing my family without my permission.

Im still deciding about god but my top reason for not believing god Is directing the WT and GBP and that they are the "True religion" is the policy on handling pedophiles and abuse victims.

for me, that happy day was in morro bay, calif. it was the fall, oct 1958 or 9. gorgeous weather.

the sun was shining and the wind was coming off of the ocean.. at that time, morro bay was unassigned territory.. talesin on another thread was talking about a lovely day she had, going with her grandfather, talking with a mr languages.

I think a lot of these experiences show why the Org. stressed service.

You build relationships and have some pleasant memories to get you through the boring parts. To me service was a chance to hang out with my friends and catch up with the latest news. Making prearrangements was the key to a good service day.

Breaks were the best time ( unless you were on a budget, then it sucked to order water while everyone else was eating)

When I got older and moved to a Congo. where I didn't know anyone, I was miserable out in service.

appointing spiritually qualified men to take the lead and serve as elders and overseers has been a feature of watch tower congregational organization since about 1972. jws were told in talks at conventions, in literature, and finally in the two versions of the organization book that the biblical criteria is used when elders meet to consider some men for appointment as an elder.

jws are also told that these qualified men are already appointed first by holy spirit, and then as the congregation is lead by that spirit to recognize them, the elders meeting is a confirmation of what god has done.

I think the Elders are not used to people questioning their authority.

They didnt quite know what to do when they were defied.

The best tactic would have been to ignore the guy. He got what he wanted and he made his point. Those Brothers had no power or authority over him.

That alone made the video worth watching.

Birthday celebration/participation

my wife is considering to let our kids participate, maybe even celebrate their own birthdays.

she says what can be so bad about just giving a little kid (who doesn't yet understand the bible) a day full of joy and happiness?

she herself actually delayed her own baptism as a teenager in order to celebrate one more birthday.

She can claim that the party was your idea and that you gave permission for your child to attend the party.

i was alone at the new branch construction site in ticuantepe (nicaragua).

everybody had taken off for a weekend assembly in the capital and it was my turn to have watchman duty and guard the site.

we had dogs and i only had to walk around the perimeters and check all the gates and entrances.. suddenly a young boy appeared at the main gate, breathless and visibly nervous.

Being a JW Used to Be Fun :-)

we found some people who were happy to welcome us into their homes, even offering us food and drink.. sometimes, they would flag us down and ask for the magazines, walk miles to the kh meetings, come to our defense if someone got ugly or rude.. now, jw's are either routinely ignored or outright vilified.. no one respects them anymore.. sad.. .

Bluegill2: count me in to the liar's club.

I too became an acomplished liar. I knew what people wanted to hear and how to say it.

I credit my Elder father for that special skill.

The wrong answer, the wrong look, would result in a beating or worse.

There were lots of really horrible memories floating around in my head-memories of family studies with the belt at the table, having to show respect to a child molester (the same Elder dad) .

I gave him the credit for making life miserable.

Clinging to the good memories were what helped me survive. That and my lying skills.
